Jubb Jinxed vs. Jets

It was stats night at the Coca-Cola Centre Thursday for the Grande Prairie Athletics in their North Peace Hockey League game against the Valleyview Jets. At least it was for everyone other than Jason Jubb. Eleven different Athletics skaters scored goals in the game, and 17 of the 18 As skaters recorded at least one point, with Jubb being the only exception. Hey, someone had to focus on defence, to ensure Dave Larson picked up his second shutout of the season.

A pair of Kings honoured

The Northwest Junior Hockey League handed out its hardware for the 2011-2012 regular season and a couple Grande Prairie Kings were honoured. Assistant captain Nolan Trudeau and Fort St. John Huskies forward Robbie Sidhu were named co-winners of the league Most Valuable Player award. The two have been in a battle for the scoring title all season long, at least until this past weekend. Sidhu racked up 10 points in two games against the Beaverlodge Blades to give him 82 points in 29 games played (31 goals, 51 assists). He now sits 14 points clear of Trudeau (29gp, 30g, 38a). The other King to be honoured by the league is Corey Wamsteeker, who was named the NWJHL Rookie of the Year. Wamsteeker sits third overall in league scoring, with 28 goals and 27 assists, for 55 points in just 24 games played.

As not quite perfect

The Grande Prairie Athletics went into Friday nights North Peace Hockey League regular season finale with only one thing to play for: A perfect home record. The As were 10-0-0 at the Coca-Cola Centre heading into their game against the Fort St. John Flyers. The Flyers won, 3-1. Eleven apparently is not a good number for the As. They also started the 2011-2012 season a perfect 10-0-0 overall, before falling to the Falher Pirates 6-5 in a shootout. Good thing the playoffs are only best-of-seven series. Those start Tuesday, with the As hosting Hythe. The DHT will preview the game in Tuesdays paper.

Craig flies like an Eagle

Lakeland Eagles forward Craig Anderson won the North Peace Hockey League 20112012 scoring race, with 51 goals and 46 assists for 97 points. With his 95 points for the Eagles (he had two assists for the Horse Lake Chiefs) Anderson was in on 52.4% of the Eagles goals this year. The team scored a total of 181 goals .

Trudeau takes scoring title

Grande Prairie JDA Kings forward Nolan Trudeau has won the North West Junior Hockey League scoring race, in one of the most incredible late season charges in league history. Trudeau trailed Fort St. Johns Robbie Sidhu by 14 points heading into the final two weeks of the regular season, but scored 22 points in the final two weeks, including 17 in the past four games, to beat Sidhu by three points. Trudeau finished with 43 goals and 47 assists. Sidhu picked up only five points in his teams final four games to finish with 87 (32g, 55a). Trudeau and Sidhu were named co-winners of the league MVP award two weeks ago.
