Exhibition: Steve Mullarkey "Images of Gaskill Street" photo exhibition opens 24 March at 7pm at taste Canowindra. Pony: Club will be holding a sign up day on Friday 24 February at 6pm at the Pony Club Room at the Showground. Please come and complete membership so you are eligible to ride at the first twilight rally day in March. There will be no sign ups on the rally day. Montana: Bound Carwash will be at Burn's Service Station this Saturday 18 February from 9am to noon(ish). Costs are: $15 for a carwash; or $25 for a wash and vacuum. Support the kids and get a clean car at the same time (hint hint Nick Carne!!!) Cricket: the Canowindra Cricket Club's Australia Day Twenty20 cricket match was won by the Cricket Club over the Tigers, but the winner on the day was the McGrath Foundation, with over $700 raised. Other winners were Linda Guthrie taking two of the raffles, and Dave Sargent & Gunna Stevenson winning the others. A huge thank you to all the business sponsors and supporters & Kathy Davis, Barry Traves and Gary Whatman for being behind the counter serving, and receiving donations, & Chris Cuddy who provided the marquee.

Again, space has run out to report on the Canowindra Star open day Friday 3 February, where over 50 people honoured Kevin Whalan and the history of the building - it felt like a reunion of old friends. To be honest, I am also waiting on some more photos of Kevin as I didn't take any! Kevin's story since The Star is too interesting not to share, so please be patient and I will endeavour to do justice to the tale soon.

1 small red chilli, seeded and minced 1 tbsp red wine vinegar Salt 500g nectarines, seeded, diced roughly 1 red capsicum, diced roughly 2 spring onions, chopped 1/4 cup fresh mint, chopped Combine chilli, vinegar & a pinch of salt in a bowl. Add the nectarines, capsicum, spring onions and mint, tossing to mix well. Refrigerate until serving time. Serve with barbecued fish steaks or grilled chicken breast. RAIN DISRUPTS FISHES The Age Of Fishes Museum was scheduled to display There is a War On... a travelling exhibition from NSW Museum and Galleries, from 9 February but due to the dreadful weather conditions it has been postponed. Please keep an eye out in local media for the new opening date and time. The exhibition will be going until the week before the Balloon Challenge 7 April 2012 and will be located in grossi gifts and also part of the Newcrest Gallery. Friends Of Fossils and members of the Museum are free of charge. Normal admission charges apply to visitors.

IMAGES OF CANOWINDRA ON DISPLAY For the past nine months photographer Steve Mullarkey has been taking a series of photographs of the main street of Canowindra, mostly at dawn and dusk. He has processed the images in Photoshop to get a specific style, the results of which are astounding, making this is one exhibition not to be missed. Steve is Northside Creative Photography Inc's Training and Development coordinator, the committee is a member of Federation of Camera Clubs NSW (FCC), and a non-profit organization. The committee is organising an outing to Canowindra and surrounds the weekend of 24-25 March, as part of their 2012 program. The exhibition opening will be held Saturday 24 March at 7pm, and will be accompanied by free wine tasting and nibbles. There will be a two course meal to follow at 8pm, alternate serve at $40 per guest. Bookings for dinner is essential by phoning 02 6344 2332. The exhibition will be on show until 31 May. CHILD & FAMILY SERVICES Community Nurse Rhonda Burnett advises the Canowindra Child and Family Services for 2012. Rhonda is the Child and Family Health Nurse in Canowindra from Monday to Wednesday, outreach to Gooloogong and Eugowra by appointment only. Rhonda does everything from baby checks to four-year-old developmental checks. Developmental health checks according to your babys personal health record, commonly called the blue book, are at 2, 4 & 6 months and the 12 & 18 months, 2, 3 & 4 years. As well as physical development social and emotional growth is also monitored. Parenting courses are also run from this service. If you are interested in doing any courses please do not hesitate to contact Rhonda, who is qualified and licensed to run 1,2,3, Magic, and Kirsten from Home Start in Cowra teaches Triple P, another parenting course. All 4 year olds are offered a free eyesight check, this is usually attended in pre-school. If your child does not attend pre-school or they missed for any reason give me a call and it can be performed at the health centre. SWIMMING CLUB Could all swimmers please remember: There are NO LATE entries taken for Championships on FRIDAY night. Ever!! Sign up before the book leaves the pool on Wednesday afternoon or miss out on that Championship. This week was Breaststroke Championships with the 33m freestyle Dash thrown in as well as the Table forgot it last week, Sorry!! Winners announced on Presentation night. Swimming Carnivals proved the ideal warm up for Friday night as times tumbled. Dominic Smyth took 4 seconds off his freestyle time and 47 seconds off his 33m breaststroke time. Michael Coady shows a post Christmas sprint dropping his freestyle time by 3 seconds and his breaststroke time by 8 seconds. Lachlan Balcombe won the spoon in a personal best time of 26 seconds. Angus Fisher improved his 33m freestyle time by 4 seconds overall, breaststroke by 4 seconds and butterfly by 2 seconds. Wow, just saying that makes me tired. Meg Austin won the Belly Flop competition while the winner of the relay was lane three. Chilled but happy, Josh Flannery Amelia Holmes, Curtis Bennett, Finbar Smyth, Laura Flannery and Marshall McKay took home the relay pennants. Dont forget the Swimming Club Quiz night which is this Saturday, book with Jacque Kinsela on 6344 1426. Backstroke Championships this week so sign up or dont swim!!!

PYTHON NEWS Remember this Saturday 18 February 2012 is the Canowindra Rugby Union Club Family Fun Day at the Clubhouse (between the tennis courts and skate park). The fun will kick off at 4pm with BBQ sausage sandwiches for $1 and $2 beers. Free drinks for the kids, and maybe a little something extra! Heaps of fun to be had by all. Bring the whole family along for a fun day out and be part of the Pythons in 2012. This year The Pythons hope to have the best supported clubs in the district. To achieve this the club will be organising events throughout the year to encourage families and friends to attend as many home and away games as possible. Everyone is invited to become members, and support the Pythons. This year they will be competing in the Southern and Presidents Cup competitions, which includes teams from Blayney, Cudal, Orange Waratahs & CSU Aggies, West Wyalong, Condobolin, Grenfell and Molong.
