About CADTutor Colophon The CADTutor website is designed, built and maintained by David Watson fromhis h ome, a small cottage in rural Hampshire (UK), which he shares with his wife, two children, two chickens and a cat. The site is primarily about a computerdrafting application, known as AutoCAD. The aim of the site is to help beginnerslearn ho w to use AutoCAD and also to help experienced users become evenmore efficient. In addition to running the CADTutor website, David teaches Digital Design at theUn iversity of Greenwich. He is also a qualified Landscape Architect andspecializes in Visual Impact Assessment. When he's not doing any of thesethings, he's most likely to be found out cycling or taking photographs of thebeautiful Hampshire c ountryside. Sometimes he just likes listening to old Echoand the Bunnymen songs on his iPod (his wife thinks that's a bit sad). Author s Notes Over the past 5 years, CADTutor has grown amazingly and what started as asmall t utorial site with a few visitors per day is now a well-known AutoCADresource wit h comfortably over 100,000 unique visitors every month. WhenCADTutor v3.0 was pu blished five and a half years ago, I wouldn't have believedthings could change s o positively. CADTutor v4.0 brings the prospect of a wholerange of new opportuni ties for the next 5 years. It's taken 18 months of work (off-and-on) but the sit e has now been transformed from an "old-school", static htmlsite into a modern, standards compliant, dynamic site using PHP and MySQL.As you can see from the im age ofthe version 3 website on the right, the site has retained its establishedid entity and its mascot, the enigmatictrout (still without a name!) but Ihope the new design improves bothusability and accessibility in additionto just making th e place a betterexperience for visitors. If you haveany comments about the site, I'dlove to hear from you, especially ifyou have suggestions or feedback(good or bad). Thanks to all of you who have madethe site such a success. David Watson, February 2007 CADTutor started life in 1995 as a couple of A4 printed handouts designed tohel p students get to grips with AutoCAD R12 for DOS.I had recently started teaching computer aided design at the University ofGreenwich in the UK and needed to dev elop some simple teaching materials. Icontinue to teach at Greenwich but have al so been teaching at the University ofKingston, in the UK and have been visiting tutor at the Technische UniversitatBerlin at Berlin in Germany, Larenstein Unive rsity of Professional Education atVelp in the Netherlands and Erasmus Hogeschool Brussels at Vilvoorde inBelgium. For the last few years, I have also run a numbe r of professional training coursesfor AutoCAD and Photoshop. The nature and range

of my teaching has meant that I need access to teachingmaterials wherever I am and the Internet, when it arrived, proved to be theperfect medium for delivery.A s you can see, what started out life as a few brief notes has turned into amammo th amount of work, all done in my own time. It has, in fact, become alabour of l ove.So here it is, never complete, never perfect but substantial and comprehensi ve. Itwill continue to grow as my teaching inevitably leads into new areas. Enjo y it, itreally is free. http://www.cadtutor.net/ Donate to CADTutor If you find this information useful, you might like to consider making a donatio n.All content on this site is provided free of charge and we hope to keep it tha t way. However, running a site like CADTutor does cost money and you can help toi mprove the service and to guarantee its future by donating a small amount.
