Introduction:

Is this paper I’m going to tell you something more about the rise and fall of tropical storm
Arthur/Alma. Arthur was the first tropical storm of the hurricane season of 2008. Moreover,
Arthur has been the first tropical storm since 1981 that began in the month of May. Arthur
caused a lot of damage in the poor country of Belize and the impact was big!
Arise of Tropical Storm Arthur:
Tropical storm Arthur arose in the end of May (29 May 2008) in the western Caribbean Sea.
Arthur arose as a result of a tropical wave and the remnants of tropical storm Alma. Tropical
Storm Alma was active in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. She moved over Honduras and
Guatamala and came in contact with the tropical wave. Together they formed the first Tropical
Storm of the hurricane season: Arthur.
This picture shows the path that Tropical Storm Arthur has made when he was active. The
light blue buttons are the path as a Tropical Storm. The dark blue buttons are when Arthur
became a Tropical Depression.

Wind history:
What we see in this table down here, is that Arthur didn’t have very hard wind speed. 1 Knots
is 1.85 km/hour. So the fastest wind speed Arthur had was about 74 km/hour.

Rainfall:
In the time that Tropical Storm Arthur was active there was a difference in rainfall. You see in
the picture below two places with a rainfall of 300 and more. You can see that this is on the
coast of Belize (that is where Arthur made landfall) and you see that there is a spot on the
coast of San Salvador. That is the place that Alma made landfall.

As one tropical storm, Arthur/Alma has caused a lot of damage by the rainfall in Belize. That
was the biggest danger Tropical Storm Arthur caused. The rainfall made Tropical Storm
Arthur a dangerous storm.

landfall to Belize
Landfall:
When Tropical Storm Arthur came ashore, he had the lowest pressure. You can see it on the
picture here below. With the heavy rainfall tropical storm Arthur had, 5 deaths were caused by
the landslides and floods.
Reports of the rainfall made clear that there had been 15 inches of rain. (That is 38 cm of rain)
The total damage Tropical Storm Arthur caused was expected to be 78 million American
dollars. A lot of bridges and roads were damaged by the heavy rainfall and 714 houses were
damaged by Tropical Storm Arthur. Most damage was done in the village near the coast.
Appendix:
Tropical Storm Arthur wasn’t really a big storm, but the rainfall made him very dangerous.
Arthur caused a lot of damage in the poor country of Belize and the people there lost a lot of
the stuff, houses, personal things were all damaged by the landslides and the floods Arthur
brought with him.
