Business Support Services is a unit within the City of Charlotte that is the provider of public sector and corporate services for thirteen other departments. There are four areas that are under the BSS umbrella: Equipment Management, Information Technology, Network Technology Services, and Procurement Services. Manages over $100m of purchasing volume representing in excess of 9,700 transactions annually (City & County ) Completes well over 39,000 work orders in vast areas that serve the City of Charlotte

There are two components of the Business Support Services Unit that make it a unique element of the City of Charlotte; its Values and Mission. These dual focuses allow the unit to provide great services and a tailored excellence for internal and external customers of this great city. They also craft a brand: Excelling in the provision of reliable, innovative and best value government shared service to the public sector, which support there commitment. Within that vision statement is a blend of Trustworthiness, Integrity, Discipline, Accountability, Forward Thinking, and Dedication which demonstrates our objective: advancing the business of public service.

Equipment Management Division (EMD) EMD is the Fleet Asset Management entity for the City of Charlotte and provides fleet services ranging from Acquisition/Disposal to Warranty Management. This division supports Key Business Units (City) and 17 Mecklenburg County Departments at a moments notice. Did we mention that EMD even services maintenance for Blue Seal Certified fleet? Information Technology This element within the Business Services Umbrella ensures that all things technology based required by the City and its citizens are taken care of. Even provides support for corporate enterprise or department-level technology initiatives with tools like service desk and enterprise architecture. This component keeps all parts of the City connected with reliable and best value technology infrastructure. Network Technology Services Division The Network Technology Services Division provides Electronics Maintenance and Wireless Infrastructure for Charlotte. The spectrum of services starts with 24 hour On-Call Emergency Service and reaches areas such as mobile/portables radio maintenance and programming. Even within those major areas, this department operates other essentials of this division such as its Radio Communications and Public Safety-Public Works Wireless Broadband Network. Procurement Services Division Procurement Services is one of the most important divisions within Business Support Services Umbrella. This division has 3 functional groups that help ensure that the City of Charlotte runs smoothly-and correctly. Commodities, Services and Technology Contracting, and Asset Recovery and Disposal are the main groups within this division.
