ANOINTING 2 Introduction 1. We are called to be kings, prophets and priests unto the Lord 2. In the O.T.

all these offices were anointed with oil and set aside 3. We need Gods anointing to fulfill these tasks 4. Anything done without the anointing is called, done in the flesh, will not bring eternal results 5. Gods work has to be done with Gods anointing DEFINING THE ANOINTING 1. Pouring of oil on to somebody or something 2. Consecration - Setting a person or a thing apart for God 3. Coronation Kings The impartation of Gods ability into our lives to do His work 4. God calling and anointing people to do His work. Examples 1. Aaron and his sons were anointed to the priesthood (Ex. 30:30; Lev. 8: 12). 2. Moses had an anointing of Gods Spirit upon him (Num. 11: 17). 3. Joshua had the anointing imparted upon him through the laying on of hands

Deut 34:9 9 Now Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him. So the Israelites listened to him and did what the LORD had commanded Moses. Jesus was anointed to manifest His Messiahship (Acts 10: 38) Isa. 61:1The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. Luke 4: 17-19. CHRIST = ANOINTED CHRISTIANS = bearing the fragrance of Jesus CHARACTER DOES NOT GET THE WORK DONE BUT ONLY THE ANOINTING 1. Jesus had an excellent character but he did not step out until he was anointed 2. Gods work needs God power THE ANOINTING IS COSTLY AND NOT AUTOMATIC 2

1. A person may have been called pre destined but he must be willing to pay the price 2. Anointing is proved through a test Eg. Jesus - tested in the wilderness He was full of the spirit and came out with the power of the spirit 3. The value God placed on the anointing and the anointed a. It is sacred, and you are to consider it sacred. 33 Whoever makes perfume like it and whoever puts it on anyone other than a priest must be cut off from his people.'" Elisha and His anointing 1 Kings 19:19-21 19 So Elijah went from there and found Elisha son of Shaphat. He was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen, and he himself was driving the twelfth pair. Elijah went up to him and threw his cloak around him. 20 Elisha then left his oxen and ran after Elijah. "Let me kiss my father and mother goodby," he said, "and then I will come with you." "Go back," Elijah replied. "What have I done to you?" 21 So Elisha left him and went back. He took his yoke of oxen and slaughtered them.
