Fr. Larry Not Again!
Congratulations to the lucky winners of our Beat the Lotto Drawing. I am sure their prize money will go to good use. The names of the winners are listed in the bulletin today. Thank you to all who helped financially support our parish and various organizations through the raffle. This year I bought three raffle tickets. One of them, to my surprise, was pulled for a $1,000 prize. There were over 1,300 raffle tickets sold this year. What are the odds that I would win again? Great, no doubt. I guess one of the dangers of buying a ticket is that you can actually win. How does something like this happen to a guy like me? One person came up to me during the Appreciation Party last Sunday and said, Well Father, it looks like that good clean living actually pays off. Ive got to try it. My personal theory is that my Mom is looking down from heaven and enjoying my embarrassment, thinking, Good for him. Who knows? I decided to donate my $1,000 winnings to our Tuition Assistance Fund Program that helps families who are struggling financially to receive a Catholic Education for their children in either our Parish School or Religious Education program. This year we have allocated over $30,000 to be distributed to families facing financial hardship. The Tuition Assistance Program is funded mostly by donations from our parish organizations and bequests from individual families.
This Sunday afternoon at 3:00 PM, our parish celebrates its annual Polish Heritage Day. Events will take place in the gym. It is an opportunity to appreciate the culture, history and traditions that are rooted in the families of those whose ancestry stems from Poland. I hope you will be able to share in the beautiful festivities. We congratulate Jan Zoltek who is honored as Pole of the Year. Jans family history and personal story is very interesting. He was born in Lasek, Poland on January 13, 1949. He is the oldest son of Jozef and Helena. His family was farmers located in the Podhale region. After finishing high school, he decided to take on a college education in Krakow. His education was cut short due to an unfortunate long recovery from an illness brought on by his military service. In the 70s, he began working as a village merchant. Nearly ten years later, he was co-founder and vice-president of the factory workers Solidarity movement. That same year he married Anna (Hajnos), with which he had two children; Krzystof and Teresa. After the changes that occurred in Poland after 1989, Jan created a social committee for providing telephone connections in rural villages. Their commitment provided connection to five villages, installing 400 phones and the significant growth and progress of these areas. His proactive social work was interrupted when in 1993, as a result of a visa drawing, he moved with his entire family to the United States. It is in the U.S. where Jan shares the faith of an immigrant and still holds consistent contact with Poland.
Page Three
Surrounded by his Polish community, Jan continued to be involved in social activism. He participates in various Polish organizations, such as: The Polish National Alliance, The Alliance of Polish Highlanders in the United States, The Radio Maria Family, The John Paul II Association of Polish Writers in Chicago and the Polish Club of Lemont. Jan continues to take great interest in the fate of the Church and the Polish and U.S. nations. He responds to important news towards religion and socio-political occurrences by sharing his voice with the Polish media. Congratulations to Jan, our Pole of the Year. Goodbye Ordinary Time, Hello Lent Note that we enter the sacred season of Lent on Wednesday this week. This is an important time for us to seriously try to strengthen our relationship with God through prayer, fasting and charitable giving. There are multiple services offered Ash Wednesday so that you and your family can come and be marked with the powerful sign of faith on your foreheads. The ashes we proudly wear on our forehead is a sign of our commitment to repent and believe in the gospel message of Jesus. Please try to take advantage of all the great opportunities for prayer, reflection and service that will be offered in our parish over the next several weeks. St. Anthony, I Need Your Help For the past week, I have been searching everywhere for a DVD that I just cant find. I think St. Anthony is tired of hearing my requests for help. It is a DVD from the set of Fr. Bob Barrens TV series on Catholicism, Volumes 7 & 8. I think I may have lent it out to a parishioner. If it can be returned, it would be greatly appreciated. I will need it for the upcoming parish presentations in Lent. If returned, St. Anthony and I can then rest. I Do, Again. The picture in my column this week is from our recent Valentine/Anniversary Mass for married or engaged couples. It is neat to see a husband and wife get teary-eyed when they renew their marriage vows. These tender tears of joy are better than candy, flowers or diamonds.

The season of Lent will be upon us this Wednesday, February 22nd, as we celebrate Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday is the day that we come together as a community and receive ashes on our foreheads as a sign of repentance. Lent is about conversion, turning our lives more completely over to Christ and his way of life. This should involve giving up sin in some form. Your goal should be not to just abstain from sin for the duration of Lent but to try to root sin out of our lives forever. In other words conversion means leaving behind an old way of life and acting in order to embrace a new life in Christ. So this Lenten season why not try giving up some habit of sin that marks your lives instead of the traditional candy, chocolate or other favorite food. Try it, you might be surprised at how easy it is to make a conversion in your life. There will be an Ash Wednesday Prayer Service at 4:00 PM for all the religious education students and their families. Sacramental Prep News REMINDER: First Communion Pictures will be taken this Saturday, February 25th in Fr. Sivore Hall which is located in the basement of the school. Boys pictures will be taken from 1:30-2:45 PM and the girls pictures will be taken from 2:45-4:00 PM. Children should come dressed in their Communion outfits. First Communion Prep Mass is next Sunday, February 26th at 3:30 PM in the church. All families who have a second grader making their First Communion this April are asked to be at this special teaching Mass. This does fulfill your Sunday obligation so you do not need to attend another Mass next weekend, only the Prep Mass.
This past Tuesday we celebrated the Feast of SS. Cyril and Methodius as a school faith community. Our Patrons were two brothers who used their gifts to help people learn about Gods Word. Students spent some time in class reflecting upon the special gifts or talents they have been given by God. These were written on small paper bibles which were brought up during the opening procession. They will serve as a reminder to use our gifts to spread the Word of God.
The second trimester will officially end on Monday, February 27th. We will follow this with an optional parent/teacher conference on Thursday evening, March 15th and Friday afternoon, March 16th. Look for more information to come home in the red envelopes. Mark your calendar for our schools Academic Fair to be presented on Thursday, March 8th. Every grade will be represented by work done through the various inquiry based units being presented. A variety of topics will be on display! Please join us from 6:30-8:00 PM. Dont forget to join us this Friday, February 24th for this years first Fish Fry. It promises to be a great community event with all proceeds going to help our schools budget! We are now accepting applications from new families interested in kindergarten through grade 8 for the 20122013 school year. We are also pleased to announce the addition of both a 3 and 4 year old pre-school program. Please call the school office at 630-257-6488 for further details. Mrs. S. Tkachuk Principal

Thank You to the 641 families who have supported our campaign with their pledge.
Thank you for your support this year to our Capital Campaign. We have completed the first phase of our project with the renovation and construction of much needed additional washrooms in the back of Church and Sacristy area. As well, two new Reconciliation rooms were constructed to provide a more reverent and sacred space to celebrate the Sacrament. Planning is now taking place to embark on the much larger second phase to begin in June of 2012 with the painting of the interior of our church. The good news is we are over halfway to our overall goal. The success of our campaign will enable our parish to continue our ministry and enhance our worship and prayer. Working together, we can met the needs of our parish community both today and for many years to come. Let us in faith, share our gift and care for our home.
Loving God, We thank You for the generous blessings You have bestowed upon Our Faith. May Your Spirit give us the vision to look into our hearts for inspiration, and in your honor, respond with our sacrifice, Our Gift. Help us as we care for this sacred and holy place, Our Home, where we come to offer you glory, praise and honor. Amen. Our Faith, Our Gift, Our Home Capital Campaign
