SikhitotheMax User Guide: VIEWING

Once a search has been executed users can view each shabad in several modes. For example if we take the results of a search on the topic of Birth we can simply click on a shabad and this will then open the shabad in the default Rich Text Mode.

Using the View Tab

If we go back to the results screen and then select the VIEW Tab on the ribbon, we can see several options. The mode, as mentioned, is set to Rich Text format by default. To view the shabad in PowerPoint Mode, select PowerPoint and then click on a shabad. After a few seconds the shabad will be displayed as a PowerPoint presentation and a Slide Navigator will also appear. Initially the slide navigation brings up the sentences of the first shabad. If when the kirtan goes to another or a second shabad then a sub search facility has been included. This search is a first letter search anywhere and in Gurmukhi ONLY. The user needs to have a good understanding of the Gurmukhi keyboard and to select a shabad simply double click. Once a selection has been made the shabad is added to the bottom of the previous shabad on the slide navigation. You can go back to the main search screen of the SikhitotheMax software by clicking on back. Users can view the shabad in Akhand Paat Mode. In Akhand Paat mode the user will view all the Gurbani from the selected shabad to the last shabad in that source. For example if the shabad is from the Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji or the Siri Dasam Granth, the scrolling notepad will begin with the selected shabad and scroll continuously until the last shabad/sentence in that Granth Sahib.

Select Akhand Paat mode from the view tab and then select a shabad. After a few seconds, a notepad will appear followed closely by the scrolling Gurbani. To close the Akhand Paat mode just click on the cross in the red box in the top right hand corner.

The Hukumnama Mode will open the selected shabad continuously in a scrolling notepad. Click on Hukumnama Display and then select a shabad. After a few seconds, a notepad will appear followed closely by the scrolling Gurbani. To close the Hukumnama mode just click on the cross in the red box in the top right hand corner. This facility is ideal to display the daily Hukumnama in a Gurdwara.

Another way to view the shabad is as a PDF document or Adobe PDF Mode. This mode is useful for printing, mailing and other electronic devices such as PDAS. Select Adobe PDF display mode from the view tab and select a shabad. After a few seconds the shabad will appear as a PDF document. To close the PDF document, just click on the cross in the red box in the top right hand corner.

Sorting the Results

Once a search has been executed users can sort the results to view them in a particular order. The first method of sorting the results is using the Search Tabs on the main page. For example if we take the results of a search on the topic of Birth we can simply click on any Column Heading to sort in that order. Click once to sort in ascending order, click again to sort in descending order.

Grouping the Results

Once a search has been executed, users can group the results to view them under sub headings of the results generated. For example if we take the results of a search on the topic of Birth we can simply Drag and Drop any of the Column Headings to the designated area and view them in that order. For example, if we drag and drop the Writer column heading, we can view the results as groups of shabads under the names of the writer sub headings. The number of shabads is shown between the brackets next to the sub heading.

To go back, simply drag and drop the column heading back on to the main body of the page.

Filtering the Results

Once a search has been executed, users can filter the results to view only a certain category of shabads. For example if we take the results of a search on the topic of Birth we can filter to see only the shabads by certain Writer; or only those shabads in a certain Raag; or only those shabads from a certain Source. We can combine the filters as well, for example, we can see the shabads by a certain writer, written in a certain raag! In this example we could filter the results to see what Bhagat Kabeer Ji has written, in Raag Assaaa on the topic of birth.

Using the Options Tab

Under the Options Tab on the ribbon users can alter the way the Gurbani and information appear. Users can select any of the options and use them in combination with any of the View Modes. By selecting Lareevaar the Gurbani will appear without spaces, and by deselecting it, the Gurbani will go back to the default view (with spaces or pad-ched). By selecting or deselecting show Transliteration, it will show or hide the Roman Transliteration for the Gurbani. This is facility has been added for users who know how to read Gurmukhi and do not need to see the Roman Transliteration. By selecting or deselecting show Bisraams it will show or hide the cammas (Bisraams) within a sentence. This is facility has been added to inform users where the pause is to be taken in a sentence. It is also useful when used with Larreevaar in Akhand Paat mode. If you wish to alter the view of the Navigation Bar on the left hand side simply click on Group box and Explorer bar. If you wish to alter the PowerPoint file used in the PowerPoint mode, simply make a selection from the drop down menu. Users can change or alter the background of the PowerPoint. Users can also upload their own designs simply by saving their PPT files in to the same directory at the SikhitotheMax Software.
