NoteBook Dos Donts

HDD Care tips : Avoid data loss from Notebook Failure - One of the biggest causes of notebook failures in the field is hard drive operational shock. Many people have a perception that notebooks can be moved around while turned on. This is far from true - it doesn't take a whole lot of movement of the notebook for the hard drive to be disrupted from normal operation. Simple tip: Before moving around with a notebook to quickly put it into standby, hit the function and f3 keys at the same time. If your notebook doesn't have this facility, go into your Control Panel and select Power Options. You should see an option in here to set your notebook to go to standby when you close the lid on it. To recover from standby, hit the power on button Battery Care Practices : Li-Ion battery cells suffer gradual, irreversible capacity loss with each discharge-charge cycle. Such aging occurs more rapidly as temperature and discharge loads increase. The self-discharge rate of a Li-Ion battery is higher if the battery is left in an unpowered notebook. During prolonged storage or non-use, the battery charge will decrease below its recommended low-voltage level. Leaving the battery in a depleted condition for an extended period will accelerate the decrease in FCC. Leaving the battery at a high level of charge in a hightemperature environment for extended periods (for example, running

a notebook computer in a docking station under a heavy load) will also accelerate the loss of capacity. Running high-end applications using the battery accelerates the loss of capacity. For example, playing 3D games will lower FCC faster than using word processing applications. Battery care Practices : Store Li-Ion batteries between 20C and 25C (68F and 77F) with 30% to 50% charge. Do not leave batteries exposed to high temperatures for extended periods. Prolonged exposure to heat (for example, inside a hot car) will accelerate the deterioration of Li-Ion cells. Remove the battery if the notebook will be stored (turned off and not plugged into AC power) for more than 2 weeks. Remove the battery from the notebook if the notebook will be plugged into AC power continuously (via a wall adapter or docking station) for more than 2 weeks. Use the type of battery with the highest capacity (Ah) rating if the notebook will run high-end applications on battery power. Periodically calibrate the battery based on the usage model. Under normal usage, batteries should be calibrated a minimum of once every 3 months; however, a battery that is rarely discharged fully should be calibrated about once a month.

Notebook Dos : Adjust screen brightness level for more comfort by pressing Key Fn + F1/F2. Hibernate or power off system if it is not in use for more than 10 minutes. Regularly take backup of your data to prevent data loss caused due to any unforeseen failure.

Uninstall unwanted applications & remove temporary files regularly. Perform hard drive tuning by running disk check & de-fragmentation. Install antivirus software & keep virus definition updated. Update windows once a month to maintain performance consistency. Protect notebook from jerks or massive shocks. Keep adaptor & power cord in proper manner to prevent the wear & tear. Turn off systems or stop device in systems tray before ejecting device. Check compatibility of device or application before installing to avoid unpredictable result. Clean the external cover of LCD panel with the soft cloth moistened with water to remove the contaminants from panel. Remove the unnecessary thing from the start-up to increase the performance. Regularly check the HP Web site for system BIOS and driver enhancements. Whenever possible, adjust power management settings (power schemes) in Control Panel to permit the hard drive to be turned off when it will be unused for an extended period of time.

Notebook dont : Do not place any object on keyboard or palm rest. Do not apply pressure or keep heavy object on back of LCD or on the top cover of the notebook. Do not keep staple pins, office pins or any small metal object in carry case along with the systems. Do not run the notebook on cushions for longer period as it results in over heating which may sudden shutdown of the notebook. Do not keep more files on the notebook it increases the booting time. Do not spray any cleaning liquid directly on the notebook. Do not touch the lens of CD-Rom drive.

Do not expose battery to extreme temperature, it affects the battery life. Do not keep the notebook in carry case while adaptor pin is connected, it may affect the main-board of the notebook. Prevent falling of water, tea or coffee on the notebook. Do not get your notebook serviced by unauthorized agencies, Visit to the nearest HP Service Centre.
