EcoCity is a modern low-carbon city

VTT develops EcoCity solutions for Chinas urbanization. The Finnish High-Tech EcoCity bases the latest applications of environmental technology and sustainability know-how. The EcoCity has for instance zero-emission energy systems and low carbon housing, integrated telecommunications, sustainable waste management and recycling, low-carbon public transport as well as neighbourhoods with mixed uses, indoor and outdoor comfort and short distances to services.

The EcoCity has a broader than usual city plan. The City will produce its own energy via renewable sources such as wind power, solar cells and bio energy. In building and construction, only sustainable methods and materials are utilized. Energy use in the homes and facilities will take place energyefficiently, with for example zero energy or nearly zero energy buildings that cause only very low carbon emissions. The broad city plan comprises safe walking and cycling, green areas and parks for relaxation and recreation, and all around Internet access. Digital technologies integrate the city with its services. can be optimized for local needs. The strong suit of VTT is that it brings to the table all the necessary technologies and integrates them to form a locally suitable, tailored solution. The know-how can be applied locally, and the EcoCity can be built locally by Chinese experts. VTT is a leader in low-energy building and construction, de-centralized energy production as well as in energy transmission and storage. The EcoCity will cause, according to calculations, 90 per cent less carbon emissions than an average city. The goal is to create energy-wise urban communities and neighbourhoods.
