Mara G. Aspinall
Mara
joined
Ventana
Medical
Systems,
Inc.
as
President
and
CEO
in
September,
2011.
Previously,
Mara
spent
twelve
years
with
Genzyme
Corporation
where
she
held
senior
leadership
roles
including
President
of
Genzyme
Genetics
and
President
of
Pharmaceuticals.
While
at
Genzyme,
her
considerable
international
experience
spanned
operations,
R&D,
mergers
and
acquisitions,
strategic
partnerships,
product
and
market
positioning
and
expansion,
as
well
as
financial
planning
and
performance.
A
frequent
biotech
industry
speaker,
Mara
has
spearheaded
industry-wide
outreach
initiatives
to
better
educate
the
health
care
community
and
policymakers
about
diagnostics,
genomics,
and
personalized
medicine.
Most
recently
she
founded
Diagnostic
Insights,
a
non-profit
organization
dedicated
to
non-partisan
education
on
the
importance
of
diagnostics
in
improving
patient
care.
She
is
passionate
about
the
fight
against
cancer
and
spent
15
years
on
the
Board
of
Dana
Farber
Cancer
Institute,
chairing
the
Science
Committee.
She
was
a
member
of
the
Secretary
of
Health
and
Human
Services'
former
Advisory
Council
on
Genetics
in
the
Obama
and
Bush
Administrations.
She
is
also
a
Co-Founder
of
the
European
Personalized
Medicine
Association.
Mara
co-authored
Realizing
the
Promise
of
Personalized
Medicine
in
Harvard
Business
Review,
and
has
written
several
articles,
case
studies
and
editorials
on
healthcare
topics.
In
2010
she
was
named
one
of
the
100
Most
Inspiring
People
in
Life
Sciences
by
PharmaVOICE
magazine.
Mara
holds
an
MBA
from
Harvard
Graduate
School
of
Business
Administration
and
a
Bachelor's
of
Arts
in
International
Relations
from
Tufts
University.
