Rationale
Adopt a 2 year certification that accurately reflects students academic learning and scholastic achievements Complement A-Level certificate Long term aim is for our students to distinguish themselves in leading universities with the 3 Hwa Chong Diploma.

Approach
Diploma with Distinction was issued in 2008 and Diploma with Merit in 2009. From 2010 onwards, 3 types of Diploma will be issued 1.Diploma with Distinction 2.Diploma with Merit 3.Diploma

Approach
Diploma is awarded based on JC2 Prelim results (academic achievement) and fulfil one of 2 pre-requisites (a) Scholastic Achievements OR (b) Leadership & Services

Assessment component Prelim results


Pass grades (scores) awarded for each H2 subject range from E (10 points) to A(20 points) H1 subjects are counted as half of H2 in terms of points computation. H3 subjects are not counted. University Admission Point - best 3 H2 and 1 H1 content subjects are counted including GP and PW.

Grading system is criterion-based (i.e. awards are determined by performance against set standards)

Assessment component Scholastic Achievement


Contribution to Country. Represented the country in prestigious academic contests at the international level; OR Contribution to School. Represented school and won medals (top 4 positions) in academic related competition OR Other scholastic pursuits. Completion of H3 module or H3 Research 9 Publishing papers in journals

Assessment component Leadership & Service


Contribution to Country. Represented the country in competitions at the international level OR Contribution to Community. Leadership Position in Ex-Co Organising Committee (main office bearers) of a major project (at least 50 hours of preparation/service)

OR Contribution to School. Hold leadership position, e.g. Student Council, CCA Leader (Exco member), Faculty Com etc Represent school in national sports & performing arts competition and obtain at least Bronze or better

General Guidelines for Activity


General descriptors to consider:
Prestige and credibility of the organisers. Rigour of engagement i.e. more than 50 hours of participation and preparation required. Well publicized through formal channels e.g. organization website, educational institutions etc. Substantial participation by other schools/ countries. Nature and attractiveness of awards and prizes

Academic Achievement UAP 80 with a pass in GP and content subjects. Scholastic Achievement Leadership & Service

Advisory Panel
Advisory Board is formed by professional expertise, educationalists, university professors chaired by Prof K K Phua, Director of Institute of Advanced Studies, NTU. The Board oversees the selection and awarding students for Diploma as well as to uphold the standards & quality in assessment.
