Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s) and prospective Marching Huskie student,
The Huskie Band has established itself as one of the premier performing groups at OPRF. The Marching
Huskies is an all-volunteer AWARD WINNING marching ensemble that performs at home football games,
parades, and marching festivals. Our performance features a show that combines music, movement, and
visual elements in a production that is unified around a central theme. Each performance is an exciting and
powerful representation of what we do daily during our rehearsals. Last year the Huskies fielded 85+
members for their fall season. We are hoping to raise it up to over 100 marchers this year.

The marching band is a unique performance group that provides entertainment at many events through
music and maneuvers. Previous performances and trips have included: The University of Illinois Festival,
Illinois State University Marching Festival, Chicago Half-Marathon, Deerpark Mall (grand opening), the
Magic Kingdom Parade at Disney World in Orlando, Florida, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade in Honolulu,
Hawaii, Peach Bowl in Atlanta, Georgia, Wheaton Marching Band Festival, Lancer Joust, Oswego Marching
Band Festival, Lake Park Lancer Joust, Downers Grove South Marching Festival, Maple Leaf Festival, and
the Bands of America Regional Preview Show.

Enclosed you will find information about the Marching Huskies, a tentative schedule of events and
registration form. Please return the registration to your band director by Friday, April 20th, 2012.

There are no auditions to be a part of the marching band and it offers students a chance to be a part of a
great community of students. Anyone who joins the band, however, must make the commitment to the
Marching Huskies to participate at all performances. We encourage you to look at the schedule carefully to
make sure that everyone can attend all scheduled events. PLEASE NOTE: ALL BAND MEMBERS ARE
REQUIRED TO PAY A PARTICIPATION FEE OF $60. THIS FEE WILL PAY FOR THE CLEANING
AND MAINTENANCE OF THE UNIFORMS, AND OTHER BAND NECESSITIES. EVERYONE MUST
PAY THIS FEE WITH THE INTENT FORM. We provide the uniforms as part of our pay-to-play
commitment but all new marchers will need to purchase a pair of Dinkle marching shoes. We will be placing
those orders over the summer. Our trip fees, however, are separate (although it DOES include a Marching
Huskie shirt) and trip fees must be paid in full by July 11
th
, 2012. Please look at the sign-up form carefully
concerning fees and ordering shoes. We try hard to keep the costs as minimal as possible and financial aid
is available for students who qualify. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or email.

For parents of new band members, we will be hosting a parent panel in the spring with some current band
parents so you can hear about how band works. Please send us an email if you would like to attend. For new
freshmen band members, we are putting together a mentor list so that each freshman has someone to go to
for questions throughout the year, as well as through the book registration line at the beginning of the
school year. We look forward to welcoming you to the Marching Huskie community.

Sincerely,

Anthony J. Svejda Patrick A. Pearson
