Terumah 2012

B. Scott 2/24/12

This weeks Torah portion Terumah meaning contribution comes from Exodus 25:1 27:19. Its within this passage that we begin to see the detailed instructions for the building of the Tabernacle given to Israel. And just as the Tabernacles purpose was for the people to be able to dwell with and communicate with Yahweh, so the building of it as well requires their involvement! The title of this portion contribution comes from the instructions for all those that were willing to donate and contribute in making the mishkan. The Tabernacle becomes the example that teaches us how we are to worship and enter into relationship with our Creator. Weve often looked at before how it (and the Temple) was patterned after the form of a man laid out on the earth representing the Adam/Messiah. As the Priests and all of Israel came to it and entered in, they became the picture of Eve being made one with her husband! If we intend on being one that is made echad with Him and allowed access to His dwelling place then we must look at how Israel was instructed to approach as well! This is the 19th Torah Portion of the year, 19 is the gematria of Eve (#2332) Chavvah life or living. The bringing of the terumah/offering for the Tabernacle becomes one of the factors in determining who Eve/the Bride is! Exodus 25:1-2 Offering: Strongs #8641 teruwmah contribution, an offering; from #7311 ruwm to rise, rise up, be high or lofty, exalted, to raise or rear children (*Intricate connection between the bringing of this offering/terumah and Israels ability to produce and raise up Godly seed be fruitful and multiply) root = tuwr (#8446) to seek, search out, spy out, explore & = what? the way you bring your contribution/offering will reveal what you are seeking/searching for! It will expose the intent of your heart. *The same letters found in terumah also contain the letters that spell Torah along with this is the letter = waters, people, languages, tongues; represents the sea of Torah, has numerical value of 40, there are 40 weeks of gestation until birth. If we come to the Tabernacle bringing a contribution and our heart is set on searching out the Torah, then we become one that is fruitful (able to raise up seed)! A close cognate of terumah is Strongs #8649 tormah treachery, deceit, fraud, delusion, deception; used in Zephaniah 3:13 The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful/tormah tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed and lie down, and none

shall make [them] afraid. Approaching in this manner is connected with a deceitful tongue! The bringing of the terumah offering hinges upon the deceitful tongue being replaced with the language/tongue of Torah (Hebrew Language)! The difference between Terumah & tormah is the letter = hook, describes the hooks that were used to hang the curtains in the Tabernacle. It also first occurs as the 22nd letter of the Torah, there are 22 letters of the Hebrew language. The purifying of the tongue/restoration of the language is what allows the Tabernacle to be built! Its what marks the Eve! The need for a restoration/purification of the tongue means that somewhere along the way something happened to cause it to become a tongue of deceit! Lets continue to look and see! Tormah is from #7411 ramah to cast, shoot, hurl or to beguile, deceive, mislead, deal treacherously. *1st reference of the term ramah is in Genesis 29:25 And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it [was] Leah: and he said to Laban, What [is] this thou hast done unto me? Did not I serve with thee for Rachel? Wherefore then hast thou beguiled/ramah me? (*Further connecting this statement and the Tabernacle, serve: Strongs #5647 abad to work, serve, used to describe the service of the Levitical priests in the Tabernacle and the worship of Yahweh). Notice that the one that Jacob directs this statement to is Laban! Laban: Strongs #3837 Laban white, from #3835 laban to be white or to make bricks; same terms are used to describe leprosy in other words, the leprous one! The rabbis teach that leprosy is a direct result of lashon hara the evil tongue (Miriam is a prime example in Numbers 12:10). Breaking down the name Laban = lev/heart & suffix = to diminish/make small. Those who are in contact with the leprous one have their heart diminished and made small and their tongue becomes one of deceit! *Making one unable to bring the terumah as commanded with a willing heart! Connections can also be found between Laban and the other leprous one/the Serpent! Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which Yahweh Elohim had made. Subtil: Strongs #6175 aruwm subtle, shrewd, crafty, sly; from #6191 aram to be subtle, shrewd, crafty, to make naked or to uncover (*Remember the difference between Terumah and tormah was the which hangs the curtains/the covering of the Tabernacle without it you are uncovered by the leprous one) *Its a cognate of the term in Hebrew translated as Syrian Laban the 2

Syrian! Strongs #761 Arammiy exalted, Syrian or Aramean; from #758 aram exalted The term for subtle and for Syrian contain the same 2 letter root as terumah the intent of the leprous one is to cause the bride to be unable to bring the terumah offering.in other words unable to be fruitful and receive the seed of the Torah! An interesting side note is that the building of the Mishkan/Tabernacle is likened to the creation of the universe! o 1st day of Creation: Stretches out the Heavens like a curtain (Psalm 104:2); curtains are made for the Tabernacle of goats hair (Exodus 26:7) o 2nd day of Creation: Firmament divides between the waters (Genesis 1:6); the veil divides between the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies (Exodus 26:33) o 3rd day of Creation: Waters are gathered (Genesis 1:9); a brazen laver is built to gather the waters (Exodus 30:18) o 4th day of Creation: Luminaries are placed in the heavens (Genesis 1:14); the Menorah (Exodus 25:31) o 5th day of Creation: Fowl of the air are created (Genesis 1:20); Cherubim are formed with wings spread (Exodus 25:20) o 6th day of Creation: Man is created to inhabit the earth; the Levites are commanded to serve in the Tabernacle o 7th day of Creation: Everything is completed (Genesis 2:1-3); completed the work of the Tabernacle (Exodus 39:32-43) *Why is this connection between creation and the Tabernacle important? Yahweh is revealing the pattern to us! His intent is to have a Bride who is able to receive and raise up the seed of Torah. However, the leprous one caused her to be compromised. Now with the building of the Tabernacle it is once again an opportunity for the leprous one to show up and compromise the Bride. This is in connection with Leah being presented. Leah: Strongs #3812 Leah weary; from #3811 laah to be weary, impatient, grieved, offended (characteristics of having been in contact with the leprous one?), this root is also used in Exodus 7:18 in connection with the 1st plague of blood they shall loathe to drink of the water of the river. Pointing towards this brides niddah/unclean condition. Its painting a picture of a bride in a niddah condition who in her current state cant properly offer the terumah offering! A repeat of Adam & Eve in the Garden of Eden, having defiled the Tabernacle by allowing access to the leprous one! However, Leahs name is also connected to the Tabernacle:

*The same letters that spell Leah also form the term (#168) ohel tent, used in reference to the Tabernacle as well as Strongs #174 ahal or ahaliym aloes, aloe tree this term is also translated as meaning little tents and refers to a tent on the housetop a place of intimacy or the bridal tent! It was a common practice to build a small honeymoon suite on the rooftop of a house, the location where the Groom would bring His Bride after their wedding. (Rebecca Park Totilo) How does one who has been found in a niddah condition, who has been weary, impatient, grieved, and offended, whose heart has diminished and is unable to bring the terumah become one that is fit to help build the Tabernacle/Tent/ohel again? How can we become one allowed access to the Bridal tent? The clue is in the connection to the aloes! The aloes are connected with 2 purposes: 1) They were used in preparing a body for burial (example: John 19:39, brought to prepare the body of Yahshua for burial) 2) Aloes are connected with the Mikvah the ritual bath Strongs #4723 miqveh hope, collection, collected mass; 2 letter root = rottenness, decay (an appropriate description of one who is leprous) It gives hope to the one who has been in contact with the leprous one! After a woman had been niddah, she was not allowed to be intimate with her husband until she had been immersed in the mikvah! *A mikvah is often compared to a grave (aloes 2 uses burial and mikvah) and after immerging the individual is reborn a new creation! Once the Bride/Leah is immersed in the mikvah, shes no longer the one who approaches deceitfully and in her flesh but instead is now one cleansed and ready to bring her terumah/offering! 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man [be] in Messiah, [he is] a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. Now to look and see if this same pattern/line of thought is seen in connection with Jacobs other wife, Rachel! Rachel: Strongs #7354 Rachel ewe; from #7353 rachel ewe The root of her name (Rachel) is only used 4 times in Scripture! Song of Songs 6:6 Thy teeth [are] as a flock of sheep/rachel which go up from the washing whereof every one beareth twins, and [there is] not one barren among them. *Notice the connections hidden in this statement when Rachel/the Bride is washed (with the water of Torah found in the Tabernacle) she is fruitful and not barren! Instead of despising the water that cleanses, the true Bride accepts it and is changed! Its no accident that the first reference of the root of terumah, #7311 ruwm

is first seen in Genesis 7:17 And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth. *How we present ourselves at the Tabernacle determines what the waters do! Whether it is a mikvah that cleanses or bitter waters that curse. Theres a constant connection to water with the terumah, water = Word/Torah! The lesson of terumah, of bringing our offering with a willing heart, all points to how in the past weve allowed the leprous one/the serpent to compromise the house and our flesh shows the fruit of it! However its by dealing with those things (being mikvahed and having the words of our mouth changed) that we once again are able to build the Tabernacle. *16 different things are listed as being requested for an offering: 1) Gold 2) Silver 3) Brass 4) Blue thread 5) Purple thread 6) Scarlet thread 7) Fine linen 8) Goats hair 9) Rams skins dyed red 10) Badgers skins 11) Shittim wood 12) Oil 13) Spices for the anointing oil 14) Spices for the incense 15) Onyx stones 16) Stones for the breastplate There are also 16 attributes listed about the quality of love in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 1) Love suffers long 2) Love is kind 3) Love does not envy 4) Love does not parade itself 5) Love is not puffed up 6) Love is not rude 7) Love does not seek its own 8) Love is not provoked 9) Love thinks no evil 10) Love does not rejoice in iniquity 11) Love rejoices in truth 12) Love bears all things 13) Love believes all things 14) Love hopes all things 15) Love endures all things 16) Love never fails Each offering brought was teaching Israel how to not only love Yahweh but how to love each other and be miqvahed by dealing with the flesh that would prevent them from loving in this manner! Exodus 25:2 Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering: of every man that giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering. Willingly: Strongs #5068 nadab to incite, impel, make willing 2 letter root = the same root as Nod meaning wandering as well as niddah. Attached to this is the letter = house/Tabernacle. As long as the fruit of the leprous one is evident in the Bride (characteristics seen in the name Leah as well as a deceitful tongue) then she is niddah and made to wander. But when she offers the terumah with a willing heart having been mikvahed by the water of Torah and taught to love then she can gain access to the house/Tabernacle! It is no accident that her cleansing was connected to the aloe plant (Leah). The 1st reference of aloes/ahaliym is in Numbers 24:6-7 *Notice the connection between the aloes and the King of Israel being 5

higher (#7311 ruwm root of terumah) than Agag. This Torah portion is one leading us up to the Feast of Purim. Purim is a reminder and a rehearsal of how the Messiah will defeat the leprous one who was represented in Esthers time by Haman the Agagite! The cleansed Bride offering the terumah is one of the ways she survives and defeats the leprous one/Haman! Song of Songs 4:7 Thou [art] all fair, my love; [there is] no spot in thee.
