Internship Experience
Software Developer Intern 5/2011 - 7/2011

Worked as an Android Platform Developer Intern at Notion Ink Design Labs. My job there was to modify the Android OS to provide PVR Texture Compression(PVRTC) format as a native texture format. This is for the next version of the Adam tablet which uses PowerVR SGX540 GPU capable of reading PVRTC format directly. Part of my work exposed me to the Android UI hardware acceleration problem. Research Assistant 5/2010 - 7/2010

Worked as a research assistant with professor Jayanti Sivaswamy, Department of Computer Science, International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad. I was involved in a project that included the design and implementation of a Text to Picture Conversion system on Android platform. In this project my specic contribution consisted in the design of the user interface and the algorithm employed in the system.

Projects Done
Design and Implementation of a Checkers bot: Dr.Daya Gaur, Associate Professor, IIT Ropar (July 11 - November 11). In this project we developed an Intelligent Checkers playing program. We used four heuristics, which made it almost impossible to beat the computer player. We also studied and did some optimizations in the Minimax algorithm which greatly improved the speed of the computer player. We were able to greatly improve performance by using alpha-beta pruning in the Minimax algorithm. Built a Recursive Ray Tracer: Dr. Deepthi Battula, Assistant Professor, IIT Ropar (July 11 - November 11). Designed and built a Recursive Ray tracer using interactive ray tracing techniques. As a part of the project, I implemented standard ray tracing algorithms to determine intersection of rays with polygons and spheres and Phongs shading model to compute the light intensity at various intersection points. The project was done in Cpp. Enhanced the Ad Hoc on Demand Distance Vector(AODV) Routing in NS-2.34: Dr.Nitin Auluck, Assistant Professor, IIT Ropar (Jan 11 - April 11) We enhanced the AODV Routing protocol in NS-2.34 by changing the search technique that the protocol uses to nd nodes in the network. We have implemented the Blocking Expanding Ring Search technique to conserve energy of the mobile nodes involved. Pintos - Enhancing an educational OS Kernel: Mr. Ashish Ahuja, Visiting Scientist, IIT Ropar (Aug 10 - Nov 10) The aim was to enhance the OS kernel of Pint-OS by implementing various advanced OS constructs like Process Synchronization Primitives, schemes for running programs in both Kernel and User Mode, File System design and design of Virtual Memory by Demand Paging.

Text To Picture conversion system: Professor Jayanti Sivaswamy, International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (Jun 10 - July 10) The Text to Picture conversion(TTPC) system displays images corresponding to the text. The system employs language processing techniques. This purpose of this system is to augment communication for children with disabilities. This system is implemented in ANDROID platform. The system consists of removal of the stopwords, followed by analysing their parts of speech using a POS tagger. Based on the context and the parts of speech, the images corresponding to the words are aligned to form an image which conveys the meaning corresponding to the text. The system connects to a server via Bluetooth in order to obtain images. Currently I am working on implementing the networking part and improving the algorithm for the selection of images. Designed and built an E-Commerce Website: Mr. Ashish Ahuja, Visiting Scientist, IIT Ropar (Jan 10 - Apr 10) Designed and built a website for a shopping mall as a part of my course in software systems laboratory in Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Ropar. The coding for the website was done in LAMP(Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP). The website includes a user-friendly interface equipped with a shopping cart and an administrative back end. Implemented the back end of a DNS Cache: Dr. Sorav Bansal, CSE, IITD (Aug 09 Nov 09) Done as a part of my course in Data structures and algorithms in Computer Science and Engineering Department IIT Ropar. The project required implementation of various tree based data structures and comparing their performance. Employed a hybrid data structure of R-B Trees and Hash Tables which resulted in faster look up and access. The model can be implemented over a network where in sequential requests for IP lookups is used. This implementation includes operations such as adding and deleting DNS entries, getting IP address from hostnames, hostnames from IP address, nding the lowest free IP address. Designed and implemented a Mips 32 bit Processor: Dr. Kolin Paul, CSE, IITD (Aug 09 - Nov 09) Done as part of my course in Computer Architecture in Department of Computer Engineering, IIT Ropar. The design was done and implemented using Logisim tool version 2.1.6(Carl Burch, Hendrix College( <www.cburch.com/logisim>) Operations Implemented: Variety of Load and Store operations, Arithmetic operations such as Addition, Subtraction, Set less than, And, Or,. Apart from the regular operations I have also added signed multiplication to the implementation which requires some extra design considerations.
