News, Announcements and Updates for Friendship House Teacher

Friendship House Teachers . . . Step Aside, Super Heroes! National Teachers Day in the U.S. is observed on May 8 this
year. World Teachers Day is marked on October 5. Whichever date is used, it is a time to salute and appreciate the tremendous amount of time, preparation, care, prayer and love that our volunteer teachers devote to the International students of Friendship House. Every teacher can tell you at least a few stories about students they know that they reached, helped move from beginning to intermediate English conversation over the course of a semester, or broke first ground in opening the door to Gods word in their lives. Each teacher can also tell you the immeasurable value of friendship extended to people far from their homelands and families. To our teachers and tutors of Friendship House, please know how much you are appreciated, admired, respected and held up in prayer. Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way: 1 Samuel 12:23 (KJV)

Rich has left the Building

I will be gone over MSU spring break, leaving Friday March 2 and returning Sunday March 11. You can still reach me via cell (517-755-6464), Facebook or email (friendshiphousemsu@gmail.com). Please let me know if you have any questions or needs by March 1.

Thanks to Kaye!

Thanks to Teacher (and Board member) Kaye, Friendship House has a new DVD player for the living room entertainment center. This is both for instructional use and for students to curl up and watch a movie classic. This is a great new addition to Friendship House. Thanks, Kaye!

Already Thinking Summer Semester

Friendship House is already planning its summer semester classes. Let me know if you plan (or not) on continuing teaching this summer. A brief course description for your class would be really, really helpful because the summer schedule we publish for students will include more detail about class content (per students requests). Thanks!

New Board Member

The last issue of Chapter & Verse reported on changes in our Friendship House Board of Directors. Our newest member, Ron Soule, was mentioned but we did not yet have a picture of him to share. In addition to being elected to the Board, Ron also agreed to become its new Treasurer. Ron is a recently retired community bank president, having been in the banking business 41 years. He is a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, a U.S. Army veteran and received his formal education at both LCC and the University of Oklahoma.

Ron has a heart for International ministry, having served on mission trips to Germany, India, Kenya and the Peoples Republic of China. Ron is married with three daughters and seven grandchildren. Ron, all of us look forward to serving with you!

International Student Dinner Wows Em!

Several Friendship House International students recently planned and prepared a magnificent meal for members at Martin Luther Chapel. Intended as a service project to show their appreciation to one of the local congregations that supports us, students were at their best in showcasing special dishes from their countries. Seventy people enjoyed the multinational repast. Special thanks go to students Hamideh and Larisa for coordinating this wonderful evening. Below are some photos from the event:

Verse for the Week

To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning. And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds. Daniel 1:17 2
