Good news! God has tied Himself up to us in a covenant. This is the main message in our first reading this first Sunday of lent. Last Sunday I mentioned in my homily that God is faithful. This fidelity of God is best demonstrated in the covenant he has entered into with us: with Noah 9:9-17 -part of our first reading this Sunday, with Abraham (Gen. 15), renewed at Mount Sinai with Moses (Exodus 24), renewed with David (2 Samuel 7), and then the promise of a new and everlasting covenant which is expressed all over the Hebrew Scriptures (Is. 55:3, Jer. 31:31-34, Ez. 37:26). The new and eternal covenant was fulfilled in Jesus Christ and sealed with His own blood on the cross. We become part of this covenant by virtue of our baptism. That is why in Easter Sunday, we renew our baptismal promises, being part of this covenant. This is what is reminded of us in this first Sunday of Lent. Last Ash Wednesday, we are reminded of our origin and dignity as Gods image and likeness. This Sunday, we are shown Gods great love by His entering into a covenant with us with the water of the flood which prefigures our cleansing through our own baptism and becoming children of God. Finally, may we remember always, that the goal of Lent is a meaningful celebration of Easter that we will be renewed as we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus. Let us then continue to be more fervent in our prayers, be devoted in our sacrifices of fast and abstinence, and be more genuine in performing our works of charity towards our neighbor. Dont forget our Lent schedule: in Arma Stations of the Cross every Tuesday after the 5:30PM Mass; in Girard - CCD Stations of the Cross every Wednesday at 3:30PM, every Friday: Adoration after the 7AM mass, confessions at 6PM, Benediction at 6:40PM and Stations of the Cross at 7PM. May God bless all of you all! Fr. Roger

February 29- - A Ladys Privilege? Theres a story circulating around Britain that St. Bridget was unhappy that women had no right to propose marriage. She wore him St. Michael Parish Hall down to every four years, thus we have what Europeans call The Ladies Privilege or Leap Year. Well, it makes a good story. Parish Pastoral Council Officers: To trace Lear Year back historically, February 29 in the Gregorian Chair Pat Westhoff calendar is a date that occurs in most years divisible by 4, such as Members at Large Emil Pronier, Betty Rons & Marcel Normand 2008, 2012, etc. But did you realize that years that are evenly divided Secretary Karen Pryer by 100 do not contain a leap day, with the exception of years evenly divisible by 400, which do have a leap day. So 1900 had no leap day, Worship Committee: while 2000 did! Chair Karen Pryer Lectors Marcel Normand Heres where it gets technical: Most calendars of the world have E.M.Es Joann Black Music Jan Harman 365 days. I know you understand Parish Finance Council: this. (or at least part of is, as I do!) Chair Fred Bogina As to births on February 29, the only notables I could find were Members Bill Harman, Judy Wingebach, Linda Broyles Jimmy Dorsey, the bandleader, and Dinah Shore, the singer. A bit of trivia: Sir James Wilson of the British Commonwealth was born and died on Feb. 29!! (1812-1880) Mass Intentions We have open dates for Mass Intentions at St. Joseph Parish.
