SECTION WORK PLAN

Course Description
This course provides a study of fluid power systems as used in industrial applications to transmit power by the flow of hydraulic fluids. It prepares students for future studies in more specialized topics within the subject area. Students will be aware of fluid power circuit diagrams including components, such as, valves, pumps, actuators, filters, intensifiers, reservoirs and accumulators. This course also covers design of positive displacement pumps, analysis of fluid leakage, hydrostatic transmissions, and performance of positive displacement pumps and actuators.

Course Objectives
Upon completion, students should be able to do the following: 1. Understand the operation of a wide range of hydraulic components and circuits, and be aware of the underlying principles. 2. Analyze hydraulic circuits from schematic drawings and draw diagrams using standard ISO notation. 3. Design and analyze simple linear actuator and hydrostatic transmission circuits. 4. Understand different methods of velocity control, and evaluate circuits for given applications. 5. Select hydraulic fluids based on their classifications and properties. 6. Be aware of the effects of contamination, and achieve, monitor and maintain appropriate system cleanliness levels. 7. Have knowledge of the construction, operation principles, and uses of auxiliary equipment, such as filters, oil coolers, and accumulators. 8. They should also be able to relate the theory with the practical applications of these principles.

Reading Material
This course will use the lecture notes as the main material source. Moreover, the student should use other textbooks and references.
