LITERAC Y READING: Students will further develop their effective reading strategies employing fictional and non-fictional texts. WRITING: Students will prepare texts to satisfy a variety of purposes, such as: recounts, persuasive, interviews and reports. SPEAKING & LISTENING: Students will develop listening skills in group and individual contexts. Will develop the clear presentation of ideas in formal and informal situations. NUMERA CY NUMBER: Mental strategies - Addition and multiplication facts. Rounding numbers, estimating, counting Place value from tenths to 1000 and beyond. Addition to 999 and above. Multiplication. Fractions common and decimals. MEASUREMENT: Length, area and perimeter. Time-analogue and digital. Capacity and volume. Chance and data. Follow My Lead! Students will focus on values in their lives, especially those adopted by the school charter: trust, clear and high expectations, respect and responsibility. They will investigate volunteers in the school and their community. Students will interview school leaders and research famous leaders. Effective reading strategies will be modelled in the classroom, e.g.: visualising, connecting, predicting, summarising, synthesising and inferring. Exposed to a range of different texts in like-ability literacy groups. Exploring real world examples of texts. Draft, edit and publish their own writing. Participate in group and individual oral presentations, receiving peer feedback. Groups share learning opportunities to develop effective strategies. Use concrete materials such as: counters, MAB, abacus. Authentic problem solving situations.

Estimate and measure with formal and informal measurement tools. Use clocks to read, estimate and measure time. Collect data, read and label graphs. Look at the core values of the school and those used in the Bounce Back program. Interview a school leader, research a famous leader from history. Present interviews and research to class. In teams, volunteer for week to undertake important school community tasks, with the leader of the group rotating every day. Nominate and vote for junior school council representatives. Observe and make the 6 simple machines. Learning By Doing incursion. A visiting guest speaker will demonstrate their product designs.
