Second Sunday of Lent

SEASON of LENT
The Season of Lent is a time of: prayer, self-denial and helping others. In this way the whole Church, together with those to be baptized (Roy Kwon) or received into the Church (Suesan Gliddon), prepare for the feast of Easter. During Lent we have the Scrutinies which are Liturgical Rites focusing on the great themes of Lent: purification and enlightenment; self-searching and repentance. The second of the three Scrutinies is today (Sunday) at the 10.30am Mass * Please take home a Project Compassion Box or Envelope Stations of the Cross: All Fridays in Lent: 7.30pm (St Josephs Church) Sacrament of Anointing: Thursday, 22 March at 2.00pm Mass of the Oils: Monday, 2nd April (St Patricks Cathedral, Ballarat) at 6.30pm Communal Celebration of Gods Mercy: Tuesday, 3rd April at 7.30pm Project Compassion (Week 2): This week we read about 10 year old Khin and her family who have fled the violence & instability in Burma to live in a rented room in Ranong, Thailand. With the help of Caritas Australia & Jesuit Refugee Services Khin is able to attend a learning centre, where in difficult conditions she is determined to finish school and hopefully one day become a teacher herself. NB: Thanks to those who are already making a commitment to the weekly Project Compassion envelopes. Hospitality Group: The Group consists of volunteers who make a significant contribution to Parish life through catering for various social gatherings at St Josephs - a major one being catering for funerals. Currently the workload has fallen to a small number of members. Would you be interested in lending a helping hand or finding out how you can help? Please contact Fr John or Leanne (Parish Office). St Josephs Pastoral Leadership Team: A brief outline of the February meeting is on the Notice Board. It is proposed to have a summary of the Minutes on the Notice Board following each meeting. Religious Education (Emmanuel College): Year 11 and Year 12 classes started their school year with retreats. Awareness of Project Compassion and fundraising will be a focus during Lent. A more detailed summary is found on the Notice Board. (John OSullivan: Religious Education/Faith Formation Co-ordinator)
