6 Length: 7-9 Pages Value: 20% of Total Marks Description: The purpose of this assignment is to help students to develop awareness of the mental health and addiction services available to immigrants in Ontario, identify gaps and overlaps in the existing services, identify the key issues associated with stigma that may prevent individual/community from accessing resources, and discuss the consequences when individual/community reach out for help. Section 1: Task (2 Pages) Research one Mental Health or Addiction organizations in Ontario Interview one clinical person Explain the intake process, programs and services and the criteria for accessing resources Discuss the clinicians opinion about major obstacles faced by immigrants when approaching such organization Section 2: Task (3-4 Pages) Students are encouraged to identify one immigrant community and further discuss how such community is dealing with issues of stigma as it relates to people experiencing mental health and/or substance use (you only need to discuss mental health or addiction). Research the stigma associated with mental health and/or addiction within a chosen immigrant community Discuss the impact on the consumer/client and the community itself Describe what needs to be done within the particular immigrant community to minimize or eliminate the stigma associated with mental health and/or addiction In your paper, pay further attention to the following issues as it relates to your chosen immigrant community: What is the issue leading up to the mental health and/or addiction concern? How has the community dealt with the issue of mental health and/or addiction? What services are utilized? How do people with mental health and/or addiction feel about their experience? Discern various forms of healing and support that is important to your chosen community during their recovery process What is the process of recovery?
