Design a compression member of two channels Toe-to Toe. The length of the compression number is 10m and carries a load of 1500 kN. The width over the backs of channels is 400MM. The channels are connected by battens. a) Sectional elevation of the column. b) Cross section of the column. Design a welded plate Girder of 30 m span to the support a live load of 75kN/m uniformly distributed over the span. Adopt permissible stress as per Is: 800-1984. Draw the longitudinal elevation, cross section and plane of the welded plate girder. PART-B 3 x 16 = 48

Design a simply supported plated rolled steel beam section to carry uniformly distributed load of 40 kN/m inclusive of self Weight. Effective span of the beam is 8M. The depth of the beam is not to exceed 500MM. The compression Flange of the beam is laterally supported. a) Draw sectional elevation of the beam. b) Draw cross section at mid span. A column section ISHB 300 at 630N/m with one cover plate 400MM20MM on either side is carrying an axial load of 2000 kN inclusive of self weight of base and column. Design a built up column composed of two channel sections placed back to back, carrying on axial load of 1300 kN. The effective length of the column is 5.95 M and fy 250 N/MM2. Also design a single Lacing system. Draw a) Sectional elevation of the column. b) Cross section of the column. At 12 M span welded plate Girder is subjected to a uniformly distributed load of 30 kN/M along with a concentrated load of 150 kN at 4 M from one of the supports. Explain the I.S. codal specifications for permissible tensile stress. Design a horizontal tension member carrying a load of 600 kN. The length of the member is 3 metres. The member is connected to a 45 MM thick gusset plate. Design a suitable base for a column carrying an axial load of 240 kN and a moment of 25000 kN-MM in the plane of web. The section of the column is IS HB 250@ 0.547 kN/M. With neat sketches explain different types of beam connections? A laterally supported beam having an effective span of 6 M consist of ISMB 550 @ 103.7 kg/M with cover plate of 250MM 16MM connected to each flange by rivets. Determine the safe uniformly distributed load the beam can carry in addition to its own weight. Design a Gantry Girder for an electric over head crane with the following data. Crane capacity = 150kN Self weight of crane Girder = 150 kN Self weight of trolley = 40 kN Minimum approach of crane = 1.2M; Hook to the Girder Wheel Box = 3.0M; C/C distance between gantry rails = 16M; C/C distance between columns = 8 M; Self weight of rail section = 300 N/M.
