WEST VALLEYMISSION COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT TITLE: CLASSROOM TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST DEFINITION: Under direction of the Dean of Information Technology and Services or assigned supervisor, research, design, specify and support audio visual and personal computer classroom equipment to meet the educational mission of the College. Maintains, repairs, installs, tests and monitors college-wide instructional computer systems and audiovisual equipment in support of instructional programs, and college special events. The Classroom Technology Specialist manages the distribution of audiovisual equipment college-wide and maintains an accurate inventory of equipment, supplies, software, parts and tools. Responsible for multimedia classroom design, control systems, installation, upgrade and maintenance. Assists with the selection, installation, integration, maintenance and upgrade of multimedia classroom computers, software, peripheral equipment and audiovisual equipment. The Classroom Technology Specialists technical expertise spans many areas of instructional technical support including a high degree of knowledge in the areas of electronics, telecommunications, audio and video equipment, and personal computer hardware and software. The person in this position must demonstrate a high level of people skills in dealing with faculty, staff, students, vendors, contractors, and public. The position requires attention to detail, organization and ability to multi-task on a daily basis. Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, integrate, install and/or assemble a variety of audiovisual, telecommunications, and campus technology equipment and systems. These systems include satellite reception, microwave, master antennas, signal distribution, in-house cable, classroom television, receivers, cameras, video projections, video recorders, classroom AV/TV/Computer systems, sound system equipment. Install, configure, troubleshoot and update classroom microcomputer hardware and software on, but not limited to, Apple Macintosh and Microsoft Windows Computers. Install and configure software on classroom microcomputers. Research, design, recommend, plan, and install multimedia classroom systems. Provide support for the maintenance and repair of the television studio and control room. Provide support for the television productions. Track and distribute audiovisual equipment, digital cameras, and laptops to students, faculty, and staff. Maintain and keep in good working order, circulating and installed equipment and classroom computers.

Plan and setup audiovisual and computer systems for special events as requested (e.g. All College Meeting, Board Meetings). Estimate cost of supplies, materials, time, equipment and replacement for the development of the telecommunications, video and audiovisual systems of the college. Prepare purchase requisitions for ordering equipment, supplies, and parts. Read and interpret complex service manuals, blueprints and schematics. Align, adjust and calibrate equipment according to specifications. Maintain budgets and accounts. Maintain accurate inventory of equipment, parts, and records of equipment repair and related maintenance. Provide instruction and consultation to users on the selection of equipment and proper operation and maintenance of various equipment systems. Maintain contact with appropriate outside agencies such as the Santa Clara County Office of Education, local cable companies, and vendors as appropriate. Keep abreast of innovations in campus and classroom technologies. Perform related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: Any combination equivalent to a two year degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Electronics, Computer Science or closely related field, and three years of increasing responsibility in audiovisual support and/or microcomputer support. Experience in the repair and maintenance of a variety of electromechanical and computer equipment and software. Desirable Qualifications: Experience in a telecommunications facility or broadcasting studio. Knowledge of: Current theory, function and design of telecommunications, electronic and electromechanical systems and equipment; Audiovisual systems, equipment and peripherals; Tools, materials, equipment and procedures used in the repair and maintenance of telecommunication, electronic and electromechanical systems; Practices and methods in the field of cable and satellite transmission, frequency allocation and microwave communications; PC Windows and Macintosh hardware and software. FCC Rules & Regulations and applicable electrical and safety codes.

Ability to: Plan, operate and maintain the technical support for telecommunication programs; Effectively install, maintain, and troubleshoot classroom microcomputer hardware, operating systems, and other microcomputer software; Isolate malfunctions and to locate and correct defects in telecommunication, audio visual, electronic and electromechanical equipment with minimum down time; ability to modify and customize as required. Maintain a variety of records, to estimate costs and to write specifications; Communicate effectively orally and in writing and to handle details accurately; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; Effectively interact with persons of diverse socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds. Be service oriented, with ability to handle emergency equipment or operator problems. WORKING CONDITIONS: Duties are primarily performed in an office or maintenance shop environment at a desk computer terminal or work bench. Incumbents are subject to frequent interruptions and contact in person and on the telephone with administrative, academic and classified staff and the general public. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must sit for long periods of time; walk to other offices; use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard; reach with hands and arms, stoop or kneel or crouch to plug in power cords; climb ladders to install and support audiovisual equipment; see clearly to read and operate computers; speak evenly and clearly; and regularly lift, carry and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. On occasion, will move transport objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
