Several regulatory agencies, particularly the EPA, are playing a pivotal role in promulgating and enforcing rules to mitigate activities contributing to climate change. Will these rules be effective and necessary to mitigate climate change, or will they impose excessively burdensome economic costs that can weaken an already fragile economy? This panel will discuss these and related matters in the area of agency regulation of activities impacting climate change.

Properly functioning markets for energy products and derivatives, including renewable energy certificates, are crucial for the efficient development of energy facilities and renewable energy resources. This group of panelists will address how these markets function and how they may be improved to foster the development of new energy resources. Mitigation and Applications Nicholas A. A number of policies, programs and technologies have been implemented to stimulate the production of new, more clean energy resources or to facilitate the more efficient use of existing energy facilities and resources. Our panelists will present an overview of how well corporate sustainability programs can work, how grid operators are addressing climate change through demand response and other measures, and what role new natural gas supplies will play in achieving significant emission reductions.
