The market-yard of Sangamner has 25 dealers shops

Area under agriculture: 40% irrigated (Kharif and Rabi crops)

60% Non-irrigated (only Kharif) Grapes, Tomato and Pomegranates are also produced and shipped to other districts. The presence of well-irrigated lands and high water-table has led to these produce of fruits, besides sugarcane. Pomegranate is consumed locally and also major chunk dispatched to Delhi Mandi.

APMCs main produce is Onion. Onions is produced in huge quantities and is exported also

APMC limit is 50 kgs a sack and 8000 such sacks are transported out of Sangamner every week. Export of onion is done for Pakistan and Malaysia (via Mumbai) Sangamner is the 2nd biggest Onion producing unit in the western Zone , after Lasal Gaon (Nasik) Besides Onion, Tomatoes are also shipped in huge quantities to entire India.

There is no MIDC in Sangamner.

Sugar factory is also present in Sangamner, and canes are available locally.
Mainly the onion, tomato, pomegranate, sugar and all such produce are not stored in cold storage or warehouses. Instead they are transported without any delay.

Transport is done with local transporters and also with vendors present in different states.

Onion goes to 8-9 states and Tomatoes to 12 states. Sugarcane and pomengranate is purchased by intermediaries and mill owners from nearby cities. Tomatoes exports are 1,80,000 T per year. 30% students go out for graduations and PGs out of which majorly people study agricultural courses. There were many proposals by FMCG companies for Ketchup factories earlier but government wants to set up its own. No factory was allowed. The agro-produce works with co-operative only.

Ranges from 15-20 k to 1 lac plus based on the volumes to be dealt with it. Livestock
Livestock is a major possession by the farmers. It is counted as their property of the farmer and has to be bought mainly with Livestock Loans from co-operative banks or Sahkari banks within Sangamner. Sangamner is considered to be a place with agricultural economy. Milk is the bread and butter for majority of the farmers. 65-70% people have livestock there. Keeping livestock is one of the two major occupations of the people residing there. On an average, each livestock possessing family owns 7-9 cows !! They depend on the locally situated Rajhans dairy, which takes 90% of their produce for milk processing. It is mainly into packing and distribution.

Rajhans dairy purchases milk from Sangamner farmers (and villages around it like Kopar and Aaley ) at around 18-20 Rs per litre.

Cows with the farmers are of premier breed. Cows are mainly Jersey and Holstain freezer.
Milking capacity: Holstain freezer 15-20 litres a day and Jersey has 12-15 litres. Fodder rate is 2-2.5 per kg and every day 25-30 kgs of fodder is consumed by a cow. Cost of a cow is around Rs 50-55 k.

A farmer earns around 30-35 k per month, after deducting all maintenance and food costs of the cattle.
This is why the mechanization of fodder cutting, milking etcare prevalent with households.

Consumer Durables Category / Two wheelers market


Besides the big showrooms in Sangamner, there is also a very big market of second hand vehicle purchase. LCV n SCV were there for sales as second hand market, mainly purchased by contract transporters. Octroi rates were lesser for Sangamner so there was a lesser price for the bikes. But the increased transportation cost had brought the total rate down by only 2.6%. Although 4 wheelers and other vehicles are bought on cash but Sriram CommVeh Finance and other companies have started educating and helping people about the vehicle loans. Commercial Vehicles dealers present: Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Piaggio (3 wheelers), Two wheeler dealer: Bajaj Auto and Hero Honda

Sales per month: Bajaj Auto-> 400 units per month. Hero Moto cop-> 625 units per month. Bajaj leads the sales in commuter segment and Hero leads in sports segment. The purchases are done by main Sangamner village and nearby 26 small villages.

Rajhans Dairy

Purchases milk from milkman in the locality at 18-20/- per litre. Supplies milk and its products to around 50 districts. Distribution is through 4-5 company owned stores and rest is distributed to local dairy shops and retailers and sweetshops. Distribution is by milk-run system but product wise and not lot wise. LCV and SCVs deployed for the distribution which begins in the afternoon. Rajhans also has mineral water bottling plant employing many villagers and is transported to near by cities

Market Structure
Second largest Mandi after Lasalgaon, Nashik. Operations as feeder market. Loading / Unloading point for all agricultural and related products like Tomato Transported to 12 states, around 3000 trucks a month for 6 months / year. Onions Transported to 9 states, around 2000 trucks a month Pomegranate Transported to regions like Delhi. Sugarcane is processed and consumed locally. Grapes is a seasonal export. High brand awareness among customers (50% ask for brands, the rest ask for opinions). Primary decision maker is wife. No shelf loyalty even though display is paid. Growing demand for LCD TVs, water purifiers and refrigerators (60% normal, 40% LCDs), Indian brands like Vijayta and Samrat is also popular. Top loading washing machines preferred. Livestock loans are also prevalent and safety is the parameter for giving out loans.
