Shiv Kumar Goel - CEO

CeO speak Mr Shiv Kumar Goel on the changing dynamics of the broking industry and the future of this industry.. The Indian equity market witnessed a growth of 109% during FY10 making it the third best performing market in the world with a GDP growth rate of almost 8%. Investors have come out of the depressing scenario with businesses yielding handsome returns. Business volumes are likely to go up with new shares being added via IPO and divestment of public sector undertakings. Higher inflation, particularly in food items will continue to be a dampener, resulting in the RBI acting as a balance between growth and inflation, apart from the gradual withdrawal of stimulus package given to the industry. India will continue to be impacted by the events/trends in the global markets. However, the impact may not be high owing to Indias international trade as a percentage of GDP being low. With the introduction of new asset class, the investor will have a wider choice. They can now invest in equity, commodity, currency and interest rate derivatives. Exchange traded funds (ETF), especially Gold ETFs are now gaining acceptance, with exchanges coming with options on ETF whereby the option facility may be made available to investors/ hedgers. Moreover mobile trading can revolutionise the way people trade, and can be a big boon to the industry. The market will continue to be transparent with increased compliance requirement, use of technology and increased compliance cost. As the growth in economy continues and spreads from metros to Tier II cities and small towns, the spread of distribution network of financial services will continue to play a very important role in tapping the growing investor community in smaller towns. Investors will also ask for the opportunities for investing in global markets wherever the returns are likely to be higher and this trend will catch up within the permissible limits by RBI. The primary catalyst in the growth of the broking industry is the huge creation of infrastructure in the past three years by brokerage houses in Tier II and Tier III cities, including our company. We have tripled our reach during this period.
