Explain that this week we will be incorporating smart week with Money Week in Maths. To be life smart they need to be number smart. Money is a part of everyday life and we need to know what value numbers represent in the money world and how to be as smart as possible when buying or selling something. Explain that it can be difficult to spot the different amounts of money when they have similar sounds For example, which one is ninety pounds and nine pence? 90.09, 90.90 or 19.09

I can solve money problems using addition.

-line up the decimal - Start adding with hths -Larger than ten? Yes = Exchange. No = Write. -Repeat process with 10ths - Repeat process with 1s, 10s, 100s and 1000s

Play shopping place value game. Role play with children representing hths, tenths, decimal, 1 and 10. Children to exchange when adding two digits larger than nine.

Explain that this week we will be incorporating smart week with Money Week in Maths. To be life smart they need to be number smart. Money is a part of everyday life and we need to know what value numbers represent in the money world and how to be as smart as possible when buying or selling something. Elicit from the children how money can be used in all the different aspects of smart awareness. Especially when it comes to funding resources for an activity they want to do. They dont want to get ripped off do they? They want to get a good deal dont they? Explain that one of the key things to get right with money is being secure in addition by keeping the decimal in the same place when adding and exchanging when necessary. Demonstrate what the sum looks like on the board while the children play the place value game. 1 digit to the left of decimal and two addends (QCA APP L2 Calculation) 2-3 digits two the left of decimal and 2-3 addends. (QCA APP L3 Calculation) 3-4 digits to the left of decimal and 3-4 addends (QCA APP L4 Calculation) -LA group
