Abstract The study was carried out in selected training institutions and workplaces in Kampala, Wakiso and Jinja districts. It was meant to find out the relationship between learning experiences in training institutions and workplaces. Our study was guided by four

objectives; how learning is organized, the nature of tools and materials used in learning, ascertaining gender related issues affecting learning and identifying learning challenges facing the selected training institutions and workplaces. We used qualitative research design. Methods employed in this study were observation and interview using interview guide as the major tool. Our findings revealed that there were learning

organizational structures in both training institutions and workplaces. It further pointed out that different institutions and workplaces use different tools and materials some of which were not in consonant with contemporary technology, most of the training institutions and workplaces remain gender bias and numerous challenges associated with acquisition of knowledge and skill based training. We concluded the learning in training institutions and workplaces needs to be improved to produce competent and skillful learners while taking into consideration the use of new technology, gender participation and challenges encountered in Vocational training institutions and workplaces. We therefore recommended that training institutions and workplaces should work hand in hand to bridge the existing gaps in acquiring knowledge and skills; training institutions and workplaces should endeavor to acquire modern tools and materials suitable to the current technology and take affirmative action on how women should be made practical through public sensitization on the benefit of female vocational education.
