10 Steps to a Successful Interview

Arrive on time. Introduce yourself in a courteous manner. Read company materials while you wait. Have a firm handshake. Listen. Use body language to show interest. Smile, nod, give nonverbal feedback to the interviewer. Ask about the next step in the process. Thank the interviewer. Write a thank-you letter to anyone you have spoken to.

TECH INTERVIEW > First I had 2 fill up a blue form which was very > important w.r.t upcoming tech & hr interviews. Interview There were around 8 - 10 panels for tech intrw held at TCS, Karapakkam, Chennai.Environment was excellent. People from TCS were very soft and had a cheerful face. In my panel, two persons of age around 35 40 yrs interviewed me.Tech intrw was held for around 55 min. Slightly drilling but easy. After clearing tech, I attended HR where one young man interviewed me.It went for half an hour exactly. Most of them were only personal questn and some tech Qs.On my time slot, 5 ppl attended in that same panel and only 2 cud get thro. For another friend, the tech held for just 10min.They asked 2 gen. Qs like where he is from (Ambattur) and how he reached that office. Then 2 tech Qs 1) Shannons theory ? Ans: I dont know2) Diff betn up85 & 86. He told correctly. He got selected. So, it depends on ur luck to get a good panel. Technical Interview Introduce ur self. First person started.. He asked my mark sheets from which Qs were poured from various subj Id studied in my BE (ECE) syllabus Favourite subj.? Digital How abt mp? Draw the architecture of 8085?Explain each block?Interrupts and its types? Flags? Write a program to multiply 2 nos?Diff betn MOV & MVI?Diff betn 85 & 86And some more?Latest mp used? Next person started..Whats inside a CPU of PC? Inside processor? Whats a MODEM? working? If 2 PCs connected to a server using 2 MODEMs, what is the fn of each modem? Back from first personmeanwhile the 2nd person was going through my marksheets and certificates. Lets move 2 ur fav subjDigital -Draw the diag of OR and NOR? OR internal ckt diag ? I managed to draw a diag which is logically correct ( with 2 transistors ..) Universal gates? Why? Draw OR using NOR gates? What is multiplexed? Slowly deviated to analog-Describe abt transistor? Types? Types of BJT? Diag for NPN and PNP? Differentiate where they r used? Uses of transistor according to mode of opn.? Uses of diode?

How it is used as rectifier? Zener diode? What is bias? What is thyristor? SCR? Where used? Diff betn thyristor & transistor? And some more Then programming How good u r with programming? I know only C. Asked me to write a pgm. Im not well versed with programming. I know only conceptually. Why pointers? Answered Luckly, they skipped the topic. ThenNetwork Topologies? Bus, ring What u know in networking? I know only the basics as this was not choosen as our elective. Then whats ur elective? Biomedical.. (I think the person was good in that subj.) I was caught He fired several questions like How ECG working? Stethoscope working? BP ? and more How pressure converted to signal? Transducers? Then came to the projectExplain ur proj. I explained clearly with proj report. Some Qs on project. I myself added that I did with 3 other students from different states and could manage to complete the project successfully. Finally general QsYou did a proj in digital design and why do u want to come to software? Why not hardware? What guarentee u give that u wont shift to hardware after 2 yrs saying u dont like S/w? Another person asked what u studied in Engineering economics & mgmt? R u interested in this subj? I frankly said its a bit boring subj. coz there is nothing to learn and this is the subj where we write stories. They smiled. If we put u in proj dealing with mgmt,..difft from what uve studied in BE, r u ready to do that? U said its a boring subj. & now ready to switch over to that ?

First of all, working at TCS itself is a great pleasure and it would be my duty to develop interest in that subject and shine well in that area. Finally they asked any Qs 2 us? Yes sir! On what electronics related proj r u working currently? Then I smiled and said then there is a chance for me to get into electronics based s/w projects. HR Interview Introduce urself other than in application. I told abt my positives and ideologies. While I was saying the 2nd point of my ideology, my throat got chocked coz of fear. Are u alright? Yes sir. Im slightly nervous. Its OK. Whats ur hobbies? Playing Tennis and chess. In chess, how its scored? I said weve checkmate the opponent king. He poured more Qs on chess. I said, I used to play chess only with computer just as a time pass and not serious with that. How many squares r there in a chess board? 1st I said 100 and then said sorry 64. How abt tennis? How many sets are played in a match? How it is scored? said 0, 15, 30, 45, game.I made a damn mistake of saying 45 instead of 40. He again asked to check and I was still stubborn with my ans. What is game point? match pt? Deuce? Who is ur fav. tennis player? Why? But, Pete Sampras everytime defeats Agassi? Whats ESPIRIT (Dept. assocn)? What uve done? Arranged VLSI conference. Whats VLSI? More than 1 million transistors per chip. Explain sth abt VLSI. No. of zeros in a million?6 No. of zeros in a lakh? Got struck (due to tension) and started counting from units digit in mind. Then said 5. I frankly told him, I need to count by fingers He laughed.. Whats ur fav. subj? Digital Describe OR & NOR gate in a sentence form What is the IC no. for AND gate?

which co. produces such chips? Where do u see urself after 3 yrs ? Whats ur ambition? Why TCS?(He really got stunned with my knowledge abt TCS) What way u can provide a s/w that is useful to the community as well as TCS? I gave some ideas like cognition tech for blind ppl and web-based applns, Why s/w? Stressed the importance of software with egs. What efforts u made to get into Software? Any thing u did for the community welfare? I gave a finishing touch. As of now, I cud help only physically. I think, if Im being selected and once if I join TCS, I can help ppl even monitorily. Finally, Any Qs to me? Yes sir! Whats the training period? 45 days Whether I can avail transportation facilities from TCS? yes Whether u do any electronics related proj @ Chennai? No. Its done at Hyd only. Thanked him and smiled my way back home with great confidence. Facts to Gather Before Interview

i like to tell you all that with GOD'S blessings i have been placed in TCS. the TCS off-campus was held at chennai on 16th and 17th of july 2005. it was on the spot registration. on 20th they put the cadidates names who have been selected on the website. i had my interview on 23rd july at 8:30AM at TCS office at vadapalani, chennai. thanks to this wonderful group and to CHETANA mam, without whom i would not have got this success. only with the help of the files i downloaded from this group i was able to clear the written test. THANKS AND THANKS A LOT. to those people who are yet to get a job. dont worry somewhere some good job is waiting for you. i have attended 10 companies before TCS. at first i wasn't able to clear the written test for some 3 companies and after that i cleared the written test but wan't able to clear GD in 2 companies and failed in the inteview in the other companies. at times i felt so bad that i didn't get a job. but i had the confidence that i will get a job soon. so that is only required to you all and just keep working hard. now some tips to crack the TCS written test: 1: synonyms and antonyms: go through the previous papers and dont just read the GRE high frequency words alone. read the exercise given after every wordlist in the GRE barrons book. mostly the words will be from those exercise only. 2: maths: just learn the method from the previous papers and just dont blindly mug up the answers because they change some details. for example one question is about the memory and they give the starting address and ask u to find the memory location of (8,5)or something like that and in one question paper they give that each location is four bits long and in other they give one location is 8 bits long. so go through the question carefully. 3: we had one reading comprehension and i will suggest u to keep this section the last to answer. 4:in the analytical ability we had 3 passages. go through GRE barrons(old edition) and atleast 2 will be form this book. my interview experience: we had one technical interview and one MR interview the interview panel had two members. one lady and one sir. for me they just asked questions from C and little about the final year project.i am a ECE student. they asked me to write a program(fibonacci series). the interview was easy for me. they asked about pointers and why it is used? what is a NULL pointer? what do you know about linked list? what is array and what is structure? what is multiplexing? then asked some general questions like why do u want to switch over to software? where will u be after 3-5 years? do u have any idea of doing higher studies? what is your aim?

for my friend they some basic questions from the ECE subjects and also from C. so it depends upon the panel. in the MR interview only one sir was there in the panel. first he asked me to tell me about yourself and about your backgroud? why do you want to join TCS? are you mobile? he asked me are you good in C? i said:yes sir. he asked me to tell the difference between call by value and call by reference? what is fibonacci series? i said the answers and then he too asked me "why do u want to switch over to software?" then he asked what steps have u taken to enter to the software field? then he said u had maths till your second year and how much did you score in it? i said i used to score above 70. then he asked me to tell "what is the transpose of a matrix?" i said that correctly and then he asked me some questions from my project. then he said "u have to take a decision, it's in the favour of theclient but it will embarass your friend, what will u do?" i said i will take the decision in favour of the client and i will explain my situation to my friend. after some more questions he asked me if i have any questions and then he said all the best. so this is my interview experience. so ALL THE BEST to all of you. take care.bye. from sangeetha hi all!! i thank all the grp members for the cont mails and data abt most of the big companies. i had only TCS in my mind and prepared only for it and no ther company. and i finally made it!! I prepared well and attended the interview, so i cleared the HR interview. First i had a technical interview which lasted for abt 30mins. i was asked abt the mini project, dbms, oops concepts meaning of my name, languages known, write a prg in java- i explained the program, write an sql query (gave a table and a condition), tell me a situation where u handled stress (as i had written in my resume), whether sanskrit can be used for developing other languages and it is being researched for making a programming language, what is the difference between vi editor of unix and linux etc. After that i was asked to wait to attend the HR interview, where they asked me equal number of

technical questions like explain phases of a lifecycle, s/w testing types and examples of testing , etc. why TCS, agreement for bond, r u mobile? if given a chance in which phase of SDLC would u place urself? and questions of that sort. i answered quite convincingly for all the questions. the results were over a toll free number they gave. i cleared the tech interview , waiting for appointment order. finally i got placed in TCS.... can mail me if u have any doubts... but decent ones only. i dont have any idea abt where they will place me after training. SO ALL OF U PREPARE WHOLE HEARTEDLY AND WIN IN UR LIFE........ ALL THE BEST. regs, today is the most happiest day in my life ....... u people know why.......yes...coz.....i got placed in TCS(Tata Consultancy Services)..... i got the results just know....... i was verymuch thankfull to all those who prayed for my sucess....(especially u ?????hmmmm ya its u.....) this is my job junt.. 1. Sutherland(cc) - out in 1st round 2. ProTech(it) - out in 1st round 3. Sutherland(cc) - got through after 7 rounds..(but this is just a backup i was searching for a It job) 4. Verizon(it) 5. Infosys(it) 6. grace labs(it) 7. Data Patterns(it) 8. Odyssey(it) 9. Hcl Cisco(it) 10. TCS(it) - out in 1st round - out in 1st round - out in 1st round - out in 1st round - out in 1st round - out in 2nd round - believe it or not i made it atlast after 3

rounds

s, ofcourse 10 is the lucky number for me.......if prabhakar can do it..u people can defenitely do it...it is not the matter of how many interview we attend....what did we learnt from each of your attempt is what that really matters......... after my first interview with sutherland i thought i worth nothing....i felt very bad....but encouragements all around, i thought the otherwise......sutherland called me again....i went with some confidence and i got it..........that gave me lot of confidence... getting through the first round in any company is very difficult.....u need lot of preparation for that, select the company and hit the dick da mamas.....papers r available in bundles in net...

those who missed tcs dont feel, if not tcs there is always cts or hcl waiting for u...........go get it.....prepare well for that....do the techies by the side....c, c++ and a bit of java is must....u dont need to master it...do the basic goddddd that will do...... trust in god...we all will get it......go break the legs......

Hey People, I have been a dormant member of this group for a long time... But i have been noticing all the papers and queries sent by diff members of the group... After a long struggle i have finally got through all the rounds of TCS and finally got selected.. I thank the various members of the group for their valuablle sugesstions.. I would like to specify few important tips for EEE students those who inspire to get into TCS.. As i myself am from EEE dept.. As usual the aptitude round comes from all previous papers. Main thing is to clear the technical interview.. Jus know the basics of c,c++, thats all they will be looking for... Be very confident with your project.. By the way u explain ur project to them, they must understand that u know everything in it.. Moreover be strong with ur basics in machines, power sys etc... You have to specify an area of intrest in which u have to be very strong.. Confidence is the most important thing every interviewer would be looking for.. So make your body language right... Above all you need a small stroke of luck.. Believe in GOD... Whatever happens, happens for good... If u fail in one there is always the next one in line for you........ ALL THE VERY BEST FOR YOUR FUTURE ENDEAVOURS AND GOD BLESS.. bye, Udaykiran........

Hi Friends Prakash here... Got a good tutorial for all of you.. Few answers are funny,, But shows reality

A lot of people know how to write a resume and talk their way into an interview. But when they get into the make or break dialogue, they stumble upon tough questions. Below, is some advice on approaching the tough questions that interviewers like to throw at job applicants: Why did you leave your last job? Real answer: It sucked. What you should say: I felt my talents and abilities were underutilized. ____________________________________________________________ What are your biggest weaknesses? Real answer: I can't concentrate for more than five minutes, hate all forms of authority and tend to fall asleep at my desk. What you should say: I'm a workaholic. I just don't know when to put down my work. ____________________________________________________________ You don't seem to hold on to a job long. Why should we think you'll stay here any longer than you've stayed elsewhere? Real answer: My employers have always had a hang-up about keeping only competent employees.. What you should say: I'm at a point in my career where I am tired of moving around. I really want to feel part of a team, a long-term enterprise, where I can make a contribution. ___________________________________________________________ For all those of u aiming for job switches............... How do you handle change? Real answer: I deal with it everyday, unless I'm out of clean underwear. What you should say: I think everyone knows that today the only constant is change. I thrive on it. ____________________________________________________________ How do you get along with others? Real answer: Fine, as long as they stay out of my face. What you should say: I think the interpersonal dynamics of the workplace can be among the most satisfying aspects of any job.___________________________________________________________ What does the word success mean to you? Real answer: It means that I don't have to drag my sorry ass out of bed to kiss yours. What you should say: Success, for me, would be knowing I am making a difference working with a team of people to make a more profitable enterprise. ____________________________________________________________ What does the word failure mean to you? Real answer: It means I continue to collect unemployment insurance. What you should say: Failure? I'm sorry, I don't know what you mean. That word is not in my vocabulary. ____________________________________________________________ Do you get along with your current boss? Real answer: I get along fine, considering what kind of a malicious person he is. What you should say: I don't think I'd call him a boss; he's been more of a mentor to me.

____________________________________________________________ Do you ever get angry with co-workers? Real answer: I don't get angry, I get even. What you should say: Nothing angers me more than to see a co-worker not pulling his weight, goofing off or stealing. Yes, sometimes I do get angry with co-workers. ____________________________________________________________ Can I contact your references? Real answer: Sure, but they won't know who I am. What you should say: Some of them are out of the country right now. Maybe I can arrange to have them contact you. ____________________________________________________________ Sorry its bit funny.. But I Will say.. Dont show your ego. Just be Quite & Natural. No Showoff & Over confidence. U will get in :) Wish U all the best to all.... Comments welcome

TCS recruitment conducted on 29th Aug 04 Chennai Discretion abt written Selection Process Written Test: Prepare from previous papers. Its of the same pattern.Prepare wordlist from Barrons. There was no psychometric test.We had only 1 and a half hr to complete the paper. For quants, we had to write the answers and were not of multiple choices. Logical questions were bit tough.Main problem is the time shortage to complete it fully. Technical Interview

HR Interview 1. Introduce urself other than in application. I told abt my positives and ideologies. While I was saying the 2nd point of my ideology, my throat got chocked coz of fear. Are u alright? Yes sir. Winning The Body Language Game Everyone uses body language during the interview (whether they realize it or not), but very few think about in advance and modify their body language to produce the most positive effect. Body language is merely the smaller, less prominent nonverbal cues that we give others while communicating. Following are some typical interpretations of body language cues:

Openness and Warmth: open-lipped smiling, open hands with palms visible, unbuttoning coat upon being seated. Confidence: leaning forward in chair, chin up, putting tips of fingers of one hand against the tips of fingers of other hand in "praying" or "steepling" position, hands joined behind back when standing. Nervousness: smoking, whistling, pinching skin, fidgeting, jiggling pocket contents, running tongue along front of teeth, clearing throat, hands touching the face or covering part of the face, pulling at skin or ear, running fingers through hair, wringing hands, biting on pens or other objects, twiddling thumbs, biting fingernails (action itself or evidence of), tongue clicking. Untrustworthy/Defensive: frowning, squinting eyes, tight-lipped grin, arms crossed in front of chest, pulling away, chin down, touching nose or face, darting eyes, looking down when speaking, clenched hands, gestures with fist, pointing with fingers, chopping one hand into the open palm of the other, rubbing back of neck, clasping hands behind head while leaning back in the chair.

As you can see, there are far more negatives than positives--possibly more than we are consciously aware of. This list is given not so that you can artificially adopt the positive body language techniques, but more to help you recognize and avoid the negatives. If you have a habit of doing any of the above negatives, remove that action from your pattern of behavior before it sends the wrong signal. Concentrate on removing it now so you will not have to think about it during the interview. And keep in mind the opposite side of the desk. As you talk with an interviewer, be aware of (although not preoccupied with) their body language and nonverbal cues. Do not try to read in more than is actually being communicated, but try to develop a sense of the interviewer's reception of you. The most obvious example is the smile connection--when your smile brings about a smile from the interviewer. Do your best to stay connected with your interviewer--both verbally and nonverbally.

TCS INTERVIEW In the panel there was only one lady. First she asked me to introduce myself. Then asked if I like programming or not. I said yes. 1.she asked me to write the program to find if a number is even or odd. 2.Then she wrote the following program : Main ( ) { int i =7; printf(%d, i ++ * i++); } also for the above program printf(%d, ++i * ++ i); diff between i++ and ++i. 3.diff between binary tree and AVL tree. Asked me to draw diagrams and explain. Howto make a binary tree an AVL tree. 4.what is dynamic binding. 5.What is polymorphism. What are the diff types of polymorphism in c++. 6.Then she wrote the following : char func( int a, int b); char * func( int a, int b); and asked me if it is an example of function overloading or not. 7.design a class with the data name, age and salary and write three functions one to set the data, one to get the data and anotjer to display the data. 8.what is a universal gate. She sketched a NOT GATE with feedback from the output to the input line ( one input and one output line ) and asked me to identify the device and draw its truthtable. 9. what is the diff between compiler and interpreter. 10. what are the diff phases of a compiler. 11.what are syntactic and semantic errors. Give an example and explain.

12. she wrote on a paper I eat horse and asked me what kind of error is this. 13. asked me that a program consists of 10 lines. There is an error in the 5th line , how would the compiler and interpreter behave. 14. what is deadlock. 15. deadlock detection and deadlock prevention which one is better. 16.what is normalization. 17. what is an entity. 18. what are the diff types of relations between antities. 19. what is DDL, what is DML. 20. how many bit-processor is the 8085 microprossesor. 21. the memory space that 8085 microprocessor can address. 22. conversion of a number from decimal to hexadecimal. 23. define waterfall model(classical) . tell me its advantages and disadvantages. 24.how many layers are there in ISO/OSI model. 25. how many layers are there in TCP/IP reference model and their names. 26. diff between TCP and UDP. 27.what is protocol. These are all the questions I was asked. I couldnt clear the Tech round because I feltvery uncomfortable with the compiler part with which she spent a lot of time. And alsothe digital logic part, I couldnt identify the device and couldnt draw the truthtable. Also I told the diff between TCP and UDP is TCP is connection oriented and UDP is connectionless, she said thats not the only difference but I couldnt remember others differences. Though in the form I mentioned my fav subjects as C,C++, OS, Datastructure, Software Engineering, I was asked questions from other subjects too as you can see here. I couldntanswer all those confidently. I would like to suggest you to be prepared for all kinds of questions.

General Tips To Overcome An Interview So what if you are not a mountaineer. Or a keen hiker. You still cannot treat your interview like a careless morning trot along a jogger's path. Your jaw-jaw at the interview table is nothing less than a cautious climb up a mountain trail--which begins around your early childhood and meanders through the years at the academia before reaching a new summit in your career. And as you retrace your steps down memory lane make sure that you post flags at important landmarks of your life and career, so that you can pop them before the interview panel scoops them out of you. You don't want to be at the receiving end, do you? Face the panel, but don't fall of the chair in a headlong rush-and-skid attempt to tell your story. Take one step at a time. If you place your foot on slippery ground, you could be ejecting out on a free fall. So prepare, fortify your thoughts, re-jig your memory, and script and design your story (without frills and falsity). Without the right preparation and storyboard, you could be a loser at the interview. Here are a few preparation tips that books on interviews sometimes overlook. Before the interview 1. Chronological Outline of Career and Education Divide your life into "segments" defining your university, first job, second job. For each stage, jot down : The reason for opting certain course or profession; Your job responsibilities in your previous/current job; Reason of leaving your earlier/current job. You should be clear in your mind where you want to be in the short and long term and ask yourself the reason why you would be appropriate for the job you are being interviewed for and how it will give shape to your future course. 2. Strengths and Weaknesses You should keep a regular check on your strengths and weaknesses. Write down three (3) technical and three (3) non-technical personal strengths. Most importantly, show examples of your skills. This proves more effective than simply talking about them. So if you're asked about a general skill, provide a specific example to help you fulfil the interviewer's expectations. It isn't enough to say you've got "excellent leadership skills". Instead, try saying: "I think I have excellent leaderships skills which I have acquired through a combination of effective communication, delegation and personal interaction. This has helped my team achieve its goals." As compared to strengths, the area of weaknesses is difficult to handle. Put across your weakness in such a way that it at leaset seems to be a positive virtue to the interviewer.

Describe a weakness or area for development that you have worked on and have now overcome. 3. Questions you should be prepared for Tell us about yourself. What do you know about our company? Why do you want to join our company? What are your strengths and weaknesses? Where do you see yourself in the next five years? How have you improved the nature of your job in the past years of your working? Why should we hire you? What contributions to profits have you made in your present or former company? Why are you looking for a change? Answers to some difficult questions :

Tell me about yourself ? Start from your education and give a brief coverage of previous experiences. Emphasise more on your recent experience explaining your job profile. What do you think of your boss? Put across a positive image, but don't exaggerate. Why should we hire you? Or why are you interested in this job? Sum up your work experiences with your abilities and emphasise your strongest qualities and achievements. Let your interviewer know that you will prove to be an asset to the company. How much money do you want? Indicate your present salary and emphasise that the opportunity is the most important consideration. Do you prefer to work in a group?

Be honest and give examples how you've worked by yourself and also with others. Prove your flexibility. 4. Questions to As At the end of the interview, most interviewers generally ask if you have any questions. Therefore, you should be prepared beforehand with 2-3 technical and 2-3 non-technical questions and commit them to your memory before the interview. Do not ask queries related to your salary, vacation, bonuses, or other benefits. This information should be discussed at the time of getting your joining letter. Here we are giving few sample questions that you can ask at the time of your interview. Sample Questions

Could you tell me the growth plans and goals for the company? What skills are important to be successful in this position? Why did you join this company? (optional) What's the criteria your company uses for performance appraisal? With whom will I be interacting most frequently and what are their responsibilities and the nature of our interaction? What is the time frame for making a decision at this position? What made the previous persons in this position successful/unsuccessful? 5. Do your homework Before going for an interview, find out as much information on the company (go to JobsAhead Company Q and A) as possible. The best sources are the public library, the Internet (you can check out the company's site), and can even call the company and get the required information. The information gives you a one-up in the interview besides proving your content company or position. Clearing the interview isn't necessarily a solitary attempt. Seek assistance from individuals who are in the profession and whose counsel you value most. Be confident in your approach and attitude; let the panel feel it through your demeanour, body language and dressing.

Getting prepared for your interview is the best way to dig deep and know yourself. You will be surprised that it would breed a new familiarity become more familiar with your own qualifications that will be make you present yourself better. All the best and get ready to give a treat. Back To

MEASUREMENT OF PERSONALITY (Self description tests) Whenever the psychologists talk about instruments of "measuring" personality, they separate out certain aspects or traits from a unified whole person, purely as a matter of convenience. These aspects or traits do not exist as separate entitles. They are only aspects of a ways of looking at the unitary person. However, it is inevitable that we do pick the person to pieces to study and understand him. We cannot look at everything at once. It will be convenient to define the terms to refer to certain segments or respective of personality that we may wish to measure or evaluate. These terms and the meaning attached to them are briefly given below: Useful things by Google :

TEMPERAMENT refers to the individual's characteristic mood, activity level, excitability and focus of concern. It includes such dimensions as cheerful-gloomy, energetic-lethargic, excited - calm, introverted-extroverted, and dominant-submissive. CHARACTER relates to those aspects of individual behavior to which a definite social value has been attached. Honesty, cooperatives, thrift, kindliness, and loyalty are all labels for social virtue. ADJUSTMENT is a term used to indicate how well the individual has been able to make peace with himself and the world around him. In so far as the individual can comfortably accept himself and his world, in so far as his ways of life do not get him in trouble with his social group, he will be considered as well adjusted. INTERESTS refer to the variety of choices the individual makes with respect to the activities in which he engages he show preference for some, aversion to others. ATTITUDES relates to tendencies to accept or reject particular groups of individuals sets of ideas or social Institutions. For the purpose of selection in employment, emphasis is normally given on the measurement of "Temperament" and "Adjustment", though occasionally the "Interest" inventories are also used. Before we describe some of the commonly used personality tests, it is worthwhile to know what a person has to do to answer any such test or inventory adequately. Completing one of these tests usually requires that the respondent be:

a) able to read and understand the item b) able to stand back and view his own behavior and to decide whether the statement is or is not true of him , and c) willing to give frank and honest answers. Each of these points raises certain issues about the validity (and hence usefulness) of self respects tests. One problem in inventories of all types is that of reading load. This problem, is partly one of sheer amount of reading. The slow reader may have trouble getting through so much verbiage, or may start responding without really reading through the item. The problem is partly one of the level of reading i.e. of complexity of structure and abstractness of ideas involved. If the vocabulary or the concepts are beyond the respondents comprehension, he may again give up the attempt really to understand and may respond in superficial or random fashion. The ten commandments of communication: a. Seek to clarify your ideas before communicating. b. Examine the true purpose of each communication. c. Consider the total physical and human setting whoever you communicate d. Consult others, when appropriate in planning communications. e. Be meaningful while you communicate, of the overtones as well as the basic content of your message. f. Take the opportunity, when it arises to convey something of help or value to the receiver. g. Follow up your communications. h. Communicate for tomorrow as well as for today. i. Be sure your actions support your communications. j. Seek not only to be understood but to understand as well - be a good listener.
