TOTAL ALLEGIANCE In previous weeks we have seen how the theme of covenantas a preparation for the baptismal covenant celebrated at Easteroccupies an important place in our cycle of Lenten readings. The notion of covenant as a relationship between two parties carries with it an expectation of mutual accountability and fidelity to the terms of the covenant. When God forged the covenant with the Jewish people on Mt. Sinai, it was a pledge of Gods protection, and it would forever permit them familiar access as the Chosen People. For their part, the Jewish people were to observe the dictates of the law, summarized most succinctly here in the form of the Ten Commandments. To be in a covenantal relationship with the Lord God requires an exclusive relationship, just as discipleship with Jesusritualized in baptism demands a total allegiance to him and none other.

St. Patrick was a Christian missionary involved in the evangelization of Ireland. Born in Britain, he was captured at age 16 by Irish raiders and carried into slavery in Ireland. He spent six years tending sheep before escaping from his master and being reunited with his family in Britain. Called in a dream to bring Christianity to the Irish, he returned to Ireland and journeyed far and wide spreading the Gospel throughout the country. It is said that he explained the notion of the Holy Trinity using the shamrock, now the national flower of Ireland. After mass, come Downstairs and enjoy the St. Joseph Table. A few Irish dancers will be helping us enjoy. this wonderful day!

ST. JOSEPH TABLE

St. Josephs table is the event that captures the heart of many St. Albert the Great parishioners and brings together many, many people to honor St. Joseph and to visit the traditional table. The St. Joseph table is a religious custom and tradition that started centuries ago in Sicily. When Sicilians were affected by a severe drought, they turned to St. Joseph the Father of Jesus and head of the Holy Family to rescue them by asking St. Joseph to intercede before God for their cause. Because of their prayer and intercession of St. Joseph, an abundance of rain was poured over the fields to save their crops. As a sign of gratitude to God, the Sicilians committed themselves to share the fruit of the earth with the poor. The tradition was started all over Sicily and, through the migrants, spread throughout the world. On March 17, please come to honor St. Joseph and admire the beautiful table and to enjoy a delicious plate of pasta and a variety of typical Italian food. Donations are accepted and in honor of St. Joseph are forwarded to St. Vincent DePaul Society to help the poor in our parish community.

Support Our Catholic School

The entire student body of St. Albert the Great Catholic School attended the 8:30 AM Mass on Ash Wednesday. Each class has compiled a list of what they would focus on during Lent, some will choose to do an extra good deed, and some plan to eliminate a special treat or activity. The Student Council officers displayed the lists in the shape of a cross and placed it next to the school library. We welcome you to join the students at Station of the Cross every Monday during Lent at 1:30 PM in the church. Recently the 4th graders participated in a creative class called Fleece Art. The students unraveled heavy yarn and wrapped bars of soap in colors and designs of their choice to make their own body scrubbers, and now they will be able to make gifts for their families and friends as well.

The next Market Day Pick-up is Monday, March 19 at 6 p.m. in the school. Please return Order Sheets by Monday, March 12.

A benefit has been established for Mary Ricchiuto (nee Winchell).

Mary has been battling cancer for four years. Both Mary and her husband, John Ricchiuto are former parishioners of St. Albert the Great and graduates of Reavis High School. The Ricchiuto and Winchell families are both founding members of the parish. John and Mary currently live in Lockport and are the proud parents of five beautiful children. Her family and friends have surrounded Mary throughout her struggle. The Ricchiuto and Winchell families have established this fund to assist the family because John has taken a leave from work to be with Mary. Donations can be made at any Chase Bank (Mary Ricchiuto Benefit Fund). All donations are tax deductible. For information, please contact Marianne (708-499-4611). We ask that you please keep Mary in your prayers. Thank You.

JESTEMY WITYNI BOGA

Dzisiejsza liturgia sowa przypomina nam Dekalog. Krzysztof Filipowicz
