Remote Replication Benefits

24x7 data availability Reduce/Eliminate backup windows Quick recovery and multiple recovery points

24x7 Site/Server availability Recovery from site outages Consolidate data from multiple sites/servers to a single location

What local replication features are offered with the MD32X0/MD32X0i?

//Snapshots - Creates a point-in-time (PiT) virtual copy Logical equivalent of a physical copy 8 per virtual disk, 128 total per array Highlights: Provides an instantaneous copy Requires less disk space than a full copy (~ 20%) Mappable to any host Can be read from, or written to //Uses - Backup imaging Reduces application downtime for backups from hour to a few minutes - File restoration - Application testing - Data mining / analysis //Virtual Disk Copy - Creates a complete duplicate of the virtual disk - Up to 8 concurrent active copies, 255 per array - Highlights Production Server Suspends writes to source volume during copy process to ensure integrity Requires no host CPU cycles ABC // Uses PiT - Full PiT data set available for analysis, Source Virtual Disk mining, testing, backup Eliminates I/O contention on the primary volume - Redistribute data for performance and/or capacity optimization Technology migration to new / faster / larger drives Move volumes to more desirable disks

Local Replication Customer Scenario // Seamless recovery of data without the long recovery time of tape
Challenge: Recovery of data when database remains intact Solution: Snapshots Challenge: Recovery of data when a disaster and/or hardware failure occurs Solution: Virtual Disk Copy
When the entire data base is corrupted and inaccessible, data can be recovered from the backup virtual disk copy. A virtual disk copy can be mapped (partitioned) to the host replacing the unrecoverable data without utilizing lengthy tape recovery methods.

If data is inadvertently lost, it can be quickly and seamlessly recovered by remounting the most recent snapshot taken. This significantly reduces the backup window and ensures a rapid return to productivity.
