IDEP is an independent Indonesian NGO that works with local and international partners, volunteers and staff to increase environmental awareness, improve ecological systems and support the realization of more sustainable, harmonious and safer living. About Yayasan IDEPs Disaster Management Work

Indonesia is one of the most disaster prone nations in the world. It located at the friction points of three continental tectonic plates, and has the largest number of historically active volcanoes in the world. Earthquakes are frequent and there is a high risk of volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, floods, landslides, forest fires, and, in some regions, drought and social unrest. Before, during and after disasters Yayasan IDEP works together with local communities to help increase understanding and resilience to disasters. In times of disaster IDEP works with a nationwide network of local partners to get people the assistance they need as quickly as possible. IDEPs Community Based Disaster Management (CBDM) capacity building program assists local communities to understand and implement a range of effective actions that can help to reduce the chance of disaster happening in their area, be more prepared if disaster does happen, and recover more quickly and more sustainably from disasters. As with all of IDEPs programs, our aim in our Disaster Management work is to help people help themselves. About Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction

IDEP understands that with empowerment, local communities can play a major role in all stages of disaster management. Before Disasters happen actions can be taken by local communities to reduce the hazards in their area and prepare themselves so that if disaster does happen they know what to do. During disasters local community members are the first people in the area that can help with vital actions that save lives. During the

needs are and can help to develop manage and their

own recovery in a more effective and sustainable way.

Disaster Management Capacity Building Trainings

Community CBDM Trainings
- increases community knowledge and ability to practice disaster management Knowledge about disaster - What is disaster? What disasters and hazards are your community prone to? What are the signs of disaster occurring, what to do if they happen and how to use the CBDM kit for effective disaster management Community preparedness and risk reduction - history of disaster in the area, community asset and risk assessment, list of medical facilities and key contact people in the area, disaster preparedness and planning actions appropriate to local hazards. Training of CBDM Facilitators - CBDM Facilitator trainings

include hands-on experience conducting CBDM community trainings as outlined above, while developing facilitation skills for risk reduction, community preparedness, response and recovery. IDEPs CBDM Toolkit and other Educational Materials

IDEPs CBDM kit has been successfully used for education and empowerment in communities from throughout Indonesia. The kit is endorsed by Indonesias BAKORNAS PBP, SATKORLAK, MPBI (Masyarakat Penangulanggan Bencana Indonesia) and other expert advisors. It uses simple language appropriate for grass roots communities throughout Indonesia. CBDM Manual and ready-to-use forms and KMPB job descriptions - can be used by local communities to prepare for and reduce the impacts of disasters. The Before Disasters section includes instructions for developing a community based disaster management team, disaster mapping and training options. It also includes a full set of forms for disaster mitigation planning. The During Disasters section includes evacuation procedures and on how to work with disaster management agencies. The After Disasters section includes impact assessment, soliciting support from donors, monitoring recovery processes and working with disaster management agencies. 8 optional disaster comic books - these fictional accounts of how communities responded to disasters are an engaging way to introduce community based disaster preparedness. Each comic includes a fact sheet about the causes and appropriate responses to the disaster covered in the story line. Please note that all prices are subject to change without notice. Orders under 500 pcs are subject to availability of stock on hand at time of placing your order. Organizations who order more than 1,000 pcs per item can have their logo printed on the printed items. For logo inclusion, a standard fee may be charged for prepress & color separations. Allow up to 6 weeks from receipt of deposit for delivery of goods. Minimum deposit is 50% value of complete order.
