2012 ATHLETIC BOOSTER CLUB SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

CLEMENTS HIGH SCHOOL

PURPOSE: The purpose of the Clements Athletic Booster Club Scholarship Program is to encourage high scholastic achievement among the athletes of Clements High School and to promote sportsmanship, recognize athletic achievement, and to assist with the costs of higher education. Four scholarships will be awarded annually to two male and two female athletes. ELIGIBILITY: Any graduating senior of Clements High School who has participated in organized, inter-school athletics for at least two full years, at least one of which must have been during their junior or senior year at Clements High School and is an active member of the Clements Athletic Booster Club will be eligible for this scholarship. The applicant shall have been accepted (or have made application and is pending) to a recognized institution of higher learning. The scholarship is subject to NCAA rules and regulations. If a student athlete has been awarded a full ride scholarship by their chosen school, they will not be eligible for this scholarship. DUE DATE: Applications should be submitted by April 16th directly to Ginger Stone, CABC Scholarship Chair in room 1125 (English) or turned in to the Front Office to be placed in the Athletic Booster Club mailbox. Complete the attached Clements Athletic Booster Club Scholarship Application. (Neatness, grammar, spelling and punctuation will be considered in scoring. You may add extra pages.) Submit a one page (single-spaced) essay outlining plans for further education, sports or school honors earned, and how your involvement in Clements athletics has helped you in your education and life. Additionally, they must outline the influence competition and teamwork has had and will have in their lives. (Neatness, grammar, spelling and punctuation will be considered in scoring.)

Submit two letters of recommendation, which specifically state the applicants qualifications in each of the four areas listed above in the Selection Criteria section. Suggestions for letters of recommendation could include high school principal, counselors, teachers, minister, or employers. One letter of recommendation must be from someone other than a school district employee. With the submission of your application, you are agreeing to release a copy of your transcript to the scholarship committee. Applicants do not request a transcript; the CABC Scholarship Chair will submit a request for all eligible applicants.

FINALISTS: The number of candidates may be narrowed down to six finalists (three male and three female) in the event that there are more than 20 applications. INTERVIEW: Finalists may be required to attend an interview conducted by members of the Clements Athletic Booster Club Scholarship Committee. PRESENTATIONS: The Booster Club will present the winning candidates with their award at the May Senior Awards ceremony on May 21, 2012. PAYMENT: A one-time payment of $1,000 will be made to the registrar of the chosen school in one complete installment at the beginning of the school year.

. SELECTION & SCORING CRITERIA 1. Four to six Booster Club members are to serve as the Selection Committee. The applicants will be evaluated anonymously. Only the chairman (who will not evaluate the applications) will know the identities of the applicants. 2. Coaches or faculty members of Clements High School may be consulted for information regarding individual applicants. However, they will not have a vote during the selection process. 3. The applicant shall submit a packet which contains: a. Clements Athletic Booster Club Scholarship Application. b. One page (single-spaced) essay outlining plans for further education, sports or school honors earned, and how their involvement in Clements athletics has inspired, motivated and challenged them to pursue further educational opportunities. Additionally, they must outline the influence competition and teamwork has had and will have in their lives. c. Two letters of recommendation, which specifically state the applicants qualifications to the degree of participation in organized, competitive, inter school athletics, scholastic achievement, and participation in school and community activities, general citizenship and character. One of the letters of recommendation must be from someone other than a school district employee. 4. The GPA will be converted into a numerical score between 1-30. (This will be done by the Selection Committee Chair and shall be inserted in the GPA column on the Evaluation Form prior to the form being given to the evaluators.) SECTION A: SPORTS PARTICIPATION: Five points shall be awarded for each semester the applicant participated in a sport, at least two of which must have been during the junior or senior year. Maximum of 40 points. SECTIONS B, C & D: SPORTS HONORS & AWARDS, NON SPORT SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION Sections B, C & D on the application form shall be scored from 0 to 10 points each. In addition, neatness, grammar, spelling and punctuation shall be considered as well.

ESSAY: The Essay shall be assigned a point value of 0-20 by the Selection Committee. Neatness, grammar, spelling and punctuation shall be considered. The Essay must outline the following criteria: a. Further Education goals; b. Sports or school honors earned; and c. How their involvement in Clements athletics has inspired, motivated and challenged them to pursue further educational opportunities. Additionally, they must outline the influence competition and teamwork has had and will have in their lives.

FINAL SCORING: The Chairperson of the scholarship committee will tabulate the scores and determine the winners based on those tabulations. The names of the award winners shall be given to the Booster President and are to be kept secret until announced at the Senior Awards ceremony.
