The State Department of Education is seeking outstanding candidates for the position of Indian Education Coordinator.
The Indian Education Coordinator at the State Department of Education (SDE) will enhance opportunities for Native American youth to achieve educational excellence in order to improve academic achievement levels of Native American students in Idaho. The incumbent will be a single point of contact with extensive cultural and community knowledge, to provide technical assistance to tribal education officials and K-12 public schools administrators and educators relative to SDE policies and procedures, federal and state education laws and rules, professional development, and curriculum and instruction matters. This position is responsible for representing the department in a professional capacity. This position requires some travel throughout the state.** This is a full time position serving under an appointment of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. RESPONSIBILITIES: Promote best practices concerning instruction for Native American students Conduct data analysis of student achievement of Native American students Provide summary reports to SDE, Tribal Councils, and Districts concerning Native American students achievement Make connections between Students Come First educational reforms and effective instruction for Native American students Participate in Idahos Statewide System of Support for schools/districts with Native American students Collaborate with Elementary and Secondary Education Act teams in technical assistance for districts serving Native American students Provide executive support to Indian Education Committee for meetings and work Facilitate collaboration between the Tribal Education Committees and the Districts voice Provide Kindergarten through post-secondary focus QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university Knowledge of Indian culture, tribal life, and family experiences; experience working with Idaho Indian tribes Knowledge of and ability to interpret State and Federal laws, policies, and procedures that relate to Native American education Experience with K-12 education including programs, trends, rules, and laws Ability to communicate both orally and in writing with a variety of public entities and diverse audiences Experience facilitating group meetings; experience speaking before groups Ability to communicate information clearly and concisely, particularly across differing cultures Ability to develop professional relationships with constituents Experience writing and editing a variety of forms, reports, and informational materials Ability to serve as the State governments representative in a diverse and changing environment

Experience using a personal computer for e-mail, word processing, data management, and Internet

Extra consideration will be given for the following desired qualifications: Master's degree in Education Working with Indian communities and Tribal Governments Experience in teaching and administration Experience in Indian education Experience with grant writing ** Related Information: Reliable personal transportation is required to carry out applicable assignments within the State of Idaho.
