GENERAL FOCUS OF THE PLAN: To improve the education of the students at Chariton Middle School. SPECIFIC GOALS (Written in a manner that allows for progress to be measured): DISTRICT GOAL: 1. Chariton Community Schools 2011-12 Annual Improvement Goal for Reading is to increase the percent of 2011-12 sixth grade students earning a score considered proficient or above (41%-99%) on the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS) Reading Comprehension test as compared to their performance as fifth graders (68.8% proficient). 2. Chariton Community Schools 2011-12 Annual Improvement Goal for Math is to increase the percent of 201112 seventh grade students earning a score considered proficient or above (41%-99%) on the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS) Math Total score as compared to their performance as sixth graders (60.4% proficient). Chariton Community Schools 2011-12 Annual Improvement Goal for Science is to increase the percent of 2011-12 tenth grade students earning a score considered proficient or above (41%-99%) on the Iowa Tests of Educational Development (ITED) Science test as compared to their performance as ninth graders (66.7% proficient). Chariton Community Schools 2011-12 Annual Improvement Goal for Technology is to continue to expect 100% of 2011-12 eighth grade students to earn a score considered proficient or above on the district-developed technology assessment.

5. Chariton Community Schools 2011-12 Annual Improvement Goal for School Climate is to increase the average
daily attendance for all district students compared to the average daily attendance of 2010-11. CMS BUILDING GOALS: Culture & Climate 1. The faculty and staff at Chariton Middle School are committed to providing a safe and positive environment for students, where students feel welcomed and are able to build a positive connection with school. A. Office referrals will decrease from the 2010-11 school year (behavior, teacher and attendance referrals). B. The number of student-to-student conflicts will be reduced from the 2010-2011 school year. Action Plan: 1. Teachers and staff will promote an anti-bullying environment using the Olweus program. 2. Teachers will learn some strategies from Love and Logic. Academic 1. The faculty and staff at Chariton Middle School are committed to the academic success of all students. A. Reduce the number of below average grades (Ds & Fs) in all areas compared to 09-10. B. Increase the number of students who are proficient on the ITBS and MAP in reading, math, and science. Action Plan: 1. The middle school will continue to offer an after school program for academic success. 2. Teachers will identify the reason(s) for each students lack of success and implement strategies to better support the student. 3. Teachers will increasingly utilize differentiated instruction strategies to reach all learning styles in their lesson planning, delivery, and assessment of student skills. 4. Teachers will target all lessons, homework, and units to Iowa Core.

INDIVIDUAL GOAL(S): 1. I will use the promethean board in an interactive way, more than a projector or traditional whiteboard. 2. I will display student learning goals daily, including the content, language, and social goals. RATIONALE FOR THE PLAN:

1. What student learning concerns will this plan address? 1) Student engagement, motivation, and differentiation for learning styles

2) Focus student attention, alerts learner to key ideas in the lesson, maximizes learning time, and used for formative assessment

2. What specific strategies and activities will help to accomplish your goal?
1) Continue professional development in utilizing the promethean board in multiple ways, plan several lessons that utilize the promethean board in interactive ways 2) Identify student goals when developing the social studies units/lessons, write them in my lesson plans, continue professional development related to the Gradual Release of Responsibility Model
