Procurement Career Path

The positions assigned to this career path are responsible for the acquisition of goods and services. Coordinates directly with vendors on specifications, contracts, and delivery. Ensures adherence to internal policies and practices. Serves as the liaison between the vendor and internal AARP personnel in performing duties as appropriate. Works with business units to maintain AARPs commitment to fairness and the prudent use of fiscal resources. Corporate Titles
(Grade)

Complexity Manages the acquisition of high level, complex, and costly goods and services, including the negotiation of contracts and renewals. Provides leadership to less experienced procurement staff as appropriate.

Scope of Responsibility/Impact Independently responsible for the financial integrity of contracts under their purview and providing leadership and subject matter expertise to the business units as appropriate. Exercises a great deal of discretionary judgment in the handling of responsibilities.

Contact Contact is primarily negotiative in nature and involves the exchange of technical and policy information with managers within AARP and key contacts with external vendors.

Desired Education and Experience Bachelors degree (MBA is a plus) and 10 or more years of procurement/sourcing experience. Experience in all aspects of the strategic sourcing process, as well as working knowledge of the UCC. Excellent project management skills.

Senior Procurement Analyst (A24)

Procurement Analyst (A23)

Develops sourcing strategies by analyzing business unit and product/ service spend, importance of products/services to the business, product/service complexity, and qualified vendor alternatives.

Normally receives general instructions on non-routine work assignments. Requires additional instructions and guidance on complex assignments. Decisions are made independently. Uses professional concepts and knowledge of company policies and practices to independently solve a variety of problems.

Contact is typically coordinative and negotiative in nature and involves an exchange of technical information, as well as negotiating purchase arrangements consistent with the procurement strategy.

Bachelors degree (MBA is a plus) and 5-7 or more years procurement/sourcing experience. Experience in all aspects of the strategic sourcing process, as well as working knowledge of the UCC. Excellent project management skills.
