100% of $500,000 in donations made to the Holy Childhood Association, Los Angeles, was given to over 8 Catholic religious orders who have been serving the impoverished people of Haiti. An additional $125,000 was collected and 100% of it given for the relocation, temporary establishment and permanent rebuilding underway at the Institute Montfort (aka "the Farm") for the housing and education of 300 deaf and mute Haitian children. No administration costs were deducted.

Weve sent Father Ken a check from our Lenten Lunch collection. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation please send your checks to the school office made out to: Holy Childhood Association in an envelope marked H.C.A. and we will send it to him.

Great Showing at K of C Track Meet

On a day full of school related activities, about two-thirds of our track team made it to Damien High School in La Verne for the annual Knight's of Columbus track meet. The day started with a bang as our 1600-meter runners all ran lifetime bests to dominate the medals. In fact two runners, Natalie O'Brien for Varsity Girls and Anthony Camacho for B Boys shattered school records in the event. This set the course for the day as St. Rita athletes were showered in dozens of gold, silver and bronze medals. The surprise is that the times turned in were so good for so early in the season. Sarah Troescher already bested her 200-meter record and the Varsity girls (Caroline McCreary, Sarah Perret, Mallory Campbell and Sarah Troescher) blew through the old 4 X 100 meter record with less than stellar handoffs. The successes in this meet bode well for the team when everyone is there. Next up for the track team is the St. Joseph Pomona Meet. That is the first team-scoring meet of the year. It is on Saturday March 24 and is unique in that it takes place on a grass track. It is also a meet where St. Rita has never lost and we hope to continue the streak.

Academic Decathlon
This past Saturday, March 10, the Academic Decathlon team competed in the 23rd Academic Junior High Decathlon for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles at the historic Los Angeles Sports Arena. The event proved to be exciting with 101 schools and over 1,000 6th to 8th grade students competing. Parents, siblings, friends, principals, pastors, and many more people made up the 5,000 spectators who cheered loud and proud for their teams. The main event for St. Rita was an up and down event. They ended up scoring 28 points for this round, which was right in the middle. They had their strongest showing in this event with answering 7 out of 10 hard questions on the Gospel of John and scoring better than that for the Science portion. With the highest score being 45, this was a good showing. This team gained a lot of experience of what it takes to be prepared for the competition and could do very well in next year's competition.

A Message From the Student Council

On February 24th we had a great pep rally. It started off with the St. Rita cheer squad and baton team performing their outstanding routine, which certainly got the crowd, pumped for the terrific basketball game that followed. The Varsity girls and boys basketball teams played against each other and went head to head battling it out for the victory. Did we mention that the Varsity boys had to wear oven mitts while playing? It slowed them down a little but in the end it was a close game. We want to thank everyone who supported our mighty Raiders in cheering and showing your school spirit! You Rock!!! P.S. The Student Council will continue to host the yummy and meatless Lenten hot lunches every Friday during Lent. It is not too late to order! Sincerely, The Student Council
