Wow its great to be back in the school!! My time in State Office was very rewarding, I learned a great deal as well as authoring, along with a retired principal, a program called the Team Leadership for School Improvement Program. This program will be used firstly, by schools which are part of the National Partnerships on Literacy and Numeracy and is being picked up by the Catholic Education system also. After writing, I was then asked to present the package, with a team, to all the regions around the state. I will be presenting my last conference this Thursday and Friday in Dubbo. I couldnt be returning to school at a better time. This week our students will have the opportunity to perform at the Hills Centre on Friday night as part of the Hills Performing Arts Festival. I cant wait to see our items. I have organised to leave Dubbo early to ensure I am back in time to stage manage the concert and watch our students perform. Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the Hawkesbury Eisteddfod this Thursday when the S2H verse speaking choir will compete. I do however wish them good luck and thank Mrs Eurell for her dedication in preparing this group. Lots of things are happening here at Beaumont Hills. You may have heard of the Commonwealth Governments project called Building the Education Revolution. Schools the size of ours were given $3 million to improve buildings. Our money will go towards the building of 6 new classrooms. These rooms will replace the demountable buildings at the Community Centre end of the school and the two demountables closest to the Forest Way carpark fence. I anticipate that work will commence shortly on this project, with classes being moved to the oval area behind the canteen as a temporary measure. All schools were given another bucket of money for general maintenance. We had some painting done and new carpet laid in the Stage 3 classrooms. With the money remaining in this bucket, the school has put $100,000 towards the building of the covered area over the quadrangle. The P & C has been raising money for this project for the last few years and all the money they have in the building account will also go to this project. I am meeting with the maintenance group soon in regards to the commencement of this work. To ensure that our students have the best resources available to them, our staff have been learning to use the latest in teaching tools called Interactive White Boards or IWBs. As I have used all the available school funds to build the shade shelter, I will be asking the P & C to provide funds for the purchase of the IWBs, to enhance learning for our students. Congratulations to those students mentioned in the newsletter, who received High Distinctions, Distinctions and Credits in the University writing competition and well done to all those hard working teachers involved with these students. Well done Taylah Pollard-Hughes who swam at the State titles yesterday. She gained silver in the 100ms breast stroke by setting a new PB for herself by 2 seconds. Lastly I would like to thank my wonderful staff. For a number of weeks this term, our school was without a substantive executive staff member. The school continued to provide outstanding learning opportunities for our students without stress, bother or anxiety. A huge thank you from me. SPORT REPORT Congratulations to those students who represented the school at the recent Castle Hill PSSA Zone Athletics carnival. All students put in magnificent efforts, and as a result there were some outstanding results, which are summarised elsewhere in the newsletter. The last round of winter PSSA competitions were played last Friday, with the following results. Soccer v Samuel Gilbert at Fred Caterson Reserve Juniors won 3-0 with Jonathon H named as player of the match Seniors won 6-1 with Brandon P named as player of the match. Both teams played exceptionally well, and if they had played like this all year, they may have well qualified for the semi finals. It was also an emotional occurrence for 3 members of the senior team, Thomas N, Jayden P and Mitchell W, as this was the last time they will represent the school at Soccer, having given 4 fantastic years of service to school Soccer teams. Unfortunately, in summary, it must be stated that none of the Beaumont Hills Winter PSSA teams qualified for the semi final games, although a couple of teams went quite close. Better luck next year, and the learning experience for many players can only mean that they will be much better players in 2010. Coaches for summer PSSA teams are starting to get ready to resume for next term, with training sessions planned for this month. Official training will start on the first Wednesday next term, while competition rounds will recommence on the first Friday. A copy of the draw will be placed in the next newsletter. If your child was in a summer PSSA team in Term 1, they will be in the same team this coming term.

Sport Coordinator ZONE CARNIVAL UPDATE Congratulations to all Beaumont Hills students who represented our school at the Track and Field Zone Carnivals. All students competed with excellent sporting behaving and were great representatives for our school. During the carnivals many students achieved new personal bests with their results and many made it into finals for their events. ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS CORNER With the change of seasons, it has been a hectic time in Stage 3 this term! With 6 weeks into this term, Stage 3 have been busily working through their curriculum and participating in a wide range of extra-curricula activities. Our COGs unit for this term is Interconnecting Growth and Change where we study the growth of Canberra as a city and as our nations capital. After our fantastic excursion to Canberra, Stage 3 learn more about the history, culture and design aspects of Canberra. The Ngunnawal Aboriginal people are studied as the first inhabitants of Canberra. We also study the physical, social and emotional changes associated with growth within themselves, communities and environments. Child protection lessons continue to occur this term with each double classroom joining together for these important lessons. Stage 3 will be studying different cultural perspectives in reading lessons this term. We are reading a variety of texts from Stories from a Troubled Homeland where the themes are all dealing with people immigrating to Australia because of war or life threatening disturbances within their home countries. Sensitivity will be taken when reading these interesting stories and students will be encouraged to respond to texts with their feelings and opinions. Throughout the term, Stage 3 have been involved in various extra-curricula activities. Without the tireless efforts from our teachers, opportunities like theses would not be able to occur. A big thank you to those teachers who give up their own time to allow such activities to occur! In summary, here is what our busy Stage 3 students have been involved in! Rehearsals for Celebrating the Arts (for their performance on the 16th September) Rehearsals for dance and choir for the Hills Performing Arts festivals (for their performance on 4th September) Debating, both for the Premiers Debating (held at our school) and Blacktown District Debating (held at Marayong South PS). Zone Field and Ball Games Carnival Zone Athletics Carnivals Sydney West Drama Festival (performed on the 11th August) Bully Busters show Lunch Disco (Wednesday 2nd September) raising money for dance costumes for the Hills Performing Arts Festival As you can see, Stage 3 are a very busy Stage this term with more to come! CELEBRATING ACADEMIC SUCCESS! Fantastic UNSW Writing Competition results. Many of our stage 2 and stage 3 students participated in the University of New South Wales Writing Competition earlier in the term. Over 1.7 million students from Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, China and India participate in a wide range of UNSW tests in many subject areas. All stage 2 and stage 3 students at Beaumont Hills are offered the opportunity to participate in the Writing, English and Mathematics competitions each year. Participation is on a voluntary basis, although all students in the extension classes are expected to participate in all subject areas. Participation in the UNSW competitions provides students with valuable practice at sitting formal examinations, preparing them for compulsory state based assessments, and assists them in becoming more comfortable in managing their time effectively under examination conditions. FRESH FRUIT & VEG campaign has been a huge success, leaving fruitbowls empty by the end of the week . A winner of the famous yellow skateboard will be drawn by lunchtime on Friday 4th September. Entry-cards will thereafter be sent to Sydney Markets and go into a major draw for some great prizes. Winners will be notified by 5pm on 15th September.
