RECOMBUSTIONING COAL BOTTOM ASH

High percentage in usage of coal makes some side product like waste thing of coal. Generally there are three side products of coal, fly ash, bottom ash, and boiler slag and in this research we want to reuse this waste product into good things. This research focused into bottom ash product, because in some manufacture which using coal in their production, the coal bottom ash has high carbon content of coal. This paper discusses the measurement of the impact of bottom ash content on ignition time and crushing strength of the briquette. This research examines the technical feasibility of bottom ash utilization as a raw material for solid fuel briquette manufacturing. They use sample from textile manufacturing in Bandung, West Java, which contains several thing like water, ash, sulfur, carbon, hydrogen, etc. in this sample analysis show carbon content is high (39.64%). The high of carbon content make high calorie value in coal bottom ash. They believe in this reason can use coal bottom ash alternative energy as mixture in briquette manufacturing. There are three process in briquette combustion, drying, devolatile, gasification and combustion. In drying process there are separation between water and solid body; devolatile is a process structure analysis solid fuel using heat. In this process, gasses and hydrocarbon structure will easy to burn because of the atmospheric situation. Gasification is a process of reaction between briquette and the air which rich of oxygen. The main methodology in this research is makes a briquette using mixture bottom ash as side product in coal burning and coal. They use several ingredient in bottom ash for example 50% bottom ash until 100% bottom ash. The measurement of bottom ash impact show that briquette contain bottom ash lower than 100% gives lower impact than other. This method is also used for ignition time of briquette, and the experiment show that the increasing bottom ash content in 10% didnt has big impact in ignition time. The mixture of coal powder can process into briquette because bottom ash has high contain of residual carbon (>30%weight). At the lower of range ash content briquette at 50-90% (on a free basis of materials adhesive and water), briquette have power equivalent of subbituminus coal. In the lower range of bottom ash content briquette of 50-100% is the same proportional to the time ignition. The increase in ignition time required an increase in ash content down is about 20% (on a free basis adhesive and water). Bottom ash content is varied in the 0-50 %-weight range (binder and moisture-free basis). The ignition time of the briquette varies in the 4.4 9.9 minutes range. The ignition time of the briquette is proportional to its bottom ash content, due to the decrease in its volatile matter content. The crushing strength of the briquette varies in the 13.4 27.1 kgf/cm2 range, which is comparable to that of typical bulk sub-bituminous coals.
