Type of Advertisement:

Part-time employment (up to 15 hours a week for a maximum of 90 calendar days). The Student Ambassador official duties will begin late August, 2012 (Specific date to be determined by manager.) until December, 2012. The contract may be renewed in January, 2013. Note: A transition period with the current Student Ambassador may begin in May for up to 4 weeks (number of hours per day to be determined by manager). This transition period may include a training session in Ottawa (to be determined by the manager).

Area of Selection / Closing Date Open to: Full-time undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled at Queens University in an area of study relevant to the duties of the position. (Applicants must be returning to full-time studies in September, 2012.) Wednesday March 16, 2012 Applications can be submitted until 23:59 (Pacific time) on the closing date of this Job Opportunity Advertisement. Duties 1. Act as a student partner and ally on-campus for the Deputy Minister Champion by: Supporting the Deputy Minister by representing him/her at on-campus federal government events; and/or organizing events for the Deputy Minister to attend in his/her role as Deputy Minister University Champion (i.e. campus presentations, information sessions);

Closing Date:

Fostering a sounding board and challenge role for new ideas; and Collaborating with the other Student Ambassadors to advance matters of mutual concern.

2. Promote and market the federal government as an employer of choice by emphasizing the important role public servants play, in the home department and in the Canadian public service, to support Canadians and Canada at large by: Disseminating information about the roles and responsibilities of Canadian public servants to students; and

Fostering the innovative use of social networking tools to promote opportunities, events or reference documents.

3. Provide information to prepare students for the public service job search and application process and encourage students to apply for federal government jobs by: Disseminating information about the public service job search, job application process and career possibilities to students;

Liaising with career services and other employment focused organizations on-campus to ensure maximum exposure of the department to job seekers; Informing the department about opportunities for the public service to recruit on campus (i.e. career fairs); Encouraging students to attend events where the federal government is recruiting (i.e. career fairs); and Fulfilling other related duties as may be assigned by the University or the Deputy Minister Champion from time to time
