Art Everyday Mixed Media Canvas Wall Hanging Transforming Ugly Paper by Nicie Ibarra Mixed Media Guest

Designer

This project was much more fun than I imagined. I thought that I was going to have trouble coming up with something to use this ugly paper but once I placed the colors on the canvas, it was no problem at all. Its perfect for an afternoon or rainy day project because the canvas panel is only 5 x 7. Im sure you will enjoy creating your own image and will have tons of fun! Supplies: Cobalt Blue Hue Soft Body Acrylic Paint (Liquitex) English Red Oxide Traditions Acrylic Paint (Deco Art, Inc.) Golden Acylic Paints Green Gold Soft Body Color Interference Blue Fine Semi-Gloss Regular Medium Gel (Golden) Paintbrush Crop-A-Dile II Big Bite Punch (Memory Keepers R Us) Large links (Hancock Fabrics) Silver chain (Home Depot) White Seam Binding Ribbon Fern Chalkboard Collection Glimmer Mist (Tattered Angels) Foil tape (at any hardware store) Stamps Harlequin Border #C3182 (Hero Arts) Art Washes Away Quote by Picasso #8490M (Inkadinkado) Art to Art (unknown) Black Staz-On Ink Pad (Tsukineko) Glass beads

Instructions: 1. Apply the blue acrylic paint on the left side of the canvas then apply the green gold paint starting at the middle. I didnt like the way the blue and green gold looked, so I wiped some of the blue paint away with a paper towel. I added more of the green gold and was happy with the result. Apply a few light brush strokes of the red oxide color.

2. Glue the ugly paper to a thin cardboard [a cereal box will work nicely] then cut it into different odd shapes. 3. Apply interference blue acrylic paint on some of the pieces of the ugly paper. This will give it a nice shimmer and gives it sort of a glow. Add foil tape to the side of some of the pieces. Designer Tip: notice the difference in the paper. The piece with the Art Washes Away saying on the left, the one in the middle and the far right pieces have the interference paint. The piece underneath the diamond that says Art to Art does not.

4. Paint the small wood rectangle & diamond with the red oxide paint. Once dry, paint them with the Interference Blue acrylic. 5. Stamp the harlequin border image randomly with black Staz-On ink directly onto the actual canvas and, also, on the small rectangle wood piece. 6. Adhere blue & green glass beads on some sides of the ugly paper and harlequin designs with Regular Gel Medium or any other white glue.

7. Use a Crop-A-Dile II Big Bite Punch to add two holes at the top of the canvas. Add a large link to the holes and add a silver chain to the links. 8. Cut a long piece of seam binding ribbon (the length is up to you) and spray it with Tattered Angels Fern Glimmer Mist. Wrinkle the ribbon and let it dry. Once its dry, tie a knot to the left side of the chain, weave it in between the chain and tie another knot on the right side.

9. Add a large glass bead on the right side of the canvas and let it dangle freely. Add two small strands of blue & green beads below the larger one.

10. Stamp an image of your choice on any of the cut pieces such as the Picasso Quote or Art to Art stamps. 11. Apply Regular Gel medium over entire canvas to give it a protective coating.
