PRINCIPALS

DEN

Dear Students, Its a delight writing maiden for our esteemed monthly magazine WOW and thereby I commit you to add WOW with a lot more information. I strongly believe that with the valuable contributions and efforts of students we will definitely make WOW the talk of the town. The month of February unfolds lot of cheer amongst the youth of the country, with celebration of Valentines week, temperature increasing with the subsiding winters, the budget season, People eagerly waiting for the Union Budget (this year it will be presented in March due to election in various states), exam fever running high with all school and board examinations commencing, Scholars preparing for the same etc.Its a happening month for the students. The burning ongoing issue about Cricketer Yuvraj Singh battling with cancer. Cancer the disease which is still said to be fatal is curable only if diagnosed at the initial stage. The name Cancer itself sets shivers down the spine. Due to unhealthy lifestyles and faulty eating habits, the cases of this disease are on the rise. As major health insurance policies not covering this disease, it becomes far more difficult for an individual suffering from cancer to bear the medical burden, as the treatment of cancer is a dear affair.

Some of the above mentioned and many more like these questions overshadow the minds of individuals. The current issue of WOW talks about some of the aspects of cancer, its symptoms and the cautions to be exercised by people. I hope the information will be of immense use to the students and the readers. Dear students, graduation period is an important part of building up the professional career. With growing competition and lot of avenues of establishing the career, it becomes pivotal on the part of students to craft their future in advance, so as to ensure their optimistic approach in attainment of their goals. Dilemmas about the career will create frustrations in the mind of the students. Time is flying and hence you have to be visionary. This issue of WOW also encompasses careers in Insurance sector. It is often observed that students more often do not perceive career in insurance as their first choice. According to current data only 20% of Indian populations have life insurance, 14% have health Insurance and less than 10% people have purchased the general insurance policies (assets insurance, home insurance etc.). This indeed is alarming, but it provides with a great opportunity for career oriented students, that lot of untapped growth opportunities are available in this field. The current issue will give you some insight about the careers in Insurance and I assure it will help you in understanding about the insurance sector more comprehensively. As Carlton Fisk aptly said Its not what you achieve, its what you overcome. Thats what defines your career. Looking forward to talk to you on any issues relating to your career, feel free to talk with me. Enjoy the month and await for the festival of colours-Holi. vinay.goyal@altius.ac.in

WINNERS NEVER QUIT AND QUITTERS NEVER WIN

Cancer is one of the most dangerous diseases which have ever distressed mankind. The earliest written record regarding cancer is 5000 years old. Every year approximately 2,00,000 people die, suffering form cancer and nearly 8,00,000 people are diagnosed. Cancer is of many types and can be caused due to various reasons. The treatment of cancer is also very painful, mainly Chemotherapy in which cancerous cells are destroyed using a combination of various drugs and radiations. In India, the situation is miserable due to the higher consumption of tobacco. Tobacco related cancers constitute 40.43 % of all cancers in males (source: Indian Council of Medical Research). But we have not yet finished. Mankind will not lose this war. Almost every one of us must have heard of at least one case of cancer where a person survived successfully against cancer. So in this issue of WOW is dedicated to all those warriors who emerged victorious and set an example of human courage and valor. Lance Armstrong is one of the greatest road racing cyclists in the history of the sport. He has won the premier event of the sport, the Tour de France, a record seven times. He is also known for overcoming cancer and for his charitable foundation The Lance Armstrong Foundation.

MR.VISHNU GOYAL
Mr. Vishnu Goyal is CMD of National Herald, Global Herald and Alfa Vision Overseas India Ltd. He is also involved in cotton business. He participated in Mumbai Marathon which is an annual international road running competition over the Marathon distance that is held in Mumbai, India in the month of January. This year Mr. Goyal participated in full marathon of 42 kms . Q. A. Q. A. How did you started with Marathon? Were you always in this sport? No I was not in this sport from beginning, it was the spirit for fitness which brought me to this sport. What particular challenges did you faced while taking up this sport? I am a business man, time management was one of the problem secondly when our group decided to start with it several critics were there to demotivate us stating its consequences may be dangerous resulting in cardio problems but we decided to participate. After running 33 kms I suffered from painful nail splits and nail cracks in my two fingers of right leg and it started bleeding still I continued and completed the full marathon of 42 kms. Q. A. Q. A. What was the shining moment? After the tiring and exhausting run of 5hrs 48 min when the road seemed to never get over I still had a strong hope that Ill make it and finally when I crossed the finish line it was a true shining moment for me. Sir, in todays life style it looks quite impossible to participate in 42kms Marathon. How did you prepared yourself for it? Self motivation is a quality, its all about taking challenges. As a business man I have to take challenges, we work in an environment which is uncertain so lets have a friendship with this uncertainty and impossibility and enjoy life. Its all about love for fitness and health. I mean to say who inspired you for this? Mr. Fouja Singh an Indian Sikh of 100 years age, born in 1911. Its a miracle when he can run at this age why cant I, this feeling became stronger in me and I participated and completed this marathon. What message you would like to share with youth. Everything is possible mere getting these words through examples by someone else doesnt make sense; you would stand differently and confidently if you do the same.

JOSHI HOUSE DAHIBADA

TRY IT OUT !!
The elite were unwilling to even step into food stalls. Instead the maker would fetch their favored dish, neatly packed for munching in the close confines of the home, but this had been changed since 1961, when Mr. Ram Chandra Joshi started selling kachori and samosa on his thela (Hand-cart). Joshi Dahibada house located at 24, Bada Sarafa Indore Ram Chandra was first to open up the concept of selling hot and fresh kachori and samosa at a time when others were cooking once and storing it in glass cases for selling. The setting was simple as Ram Chandras thela stood in front of 46, bada sarafa a shop which he later bought on his own pleasing every visiting customer with the garma - garam ' kachori - samosa ' from his kadhai. Turning point came when Mr. Ram Chandra started serving Dahibada in the summer of 1978 when he came up with dahi bada, it was indeed out-of - the- ordinary concept as everybody soon discovered. The curd is sweet the bada made of mixture of moong and urad daal is from rumples ( "gathan" as Mr. Raam Chandra calls it ) masala consisting of coriander powder , cumin powder, clover powder, chili powder, salt is tempting which along with amchur ki chatni made joshi's dahibada the king and the favorite of all taste buds . First timers are advised to check out for the timing which is presently 12: 00 noon to 10:00 pm only. The secret that makes the dahibada different from others is the curd of pure milk, here they never remove malai from milk before making curd and now they have mastered the art of making curd the perfect way , thats why it never sours. Mr. Rams sons Mr. Om Prakash and Mr. Hans raj take care of the property (shop). Joshi's dahibada ever since it started gurantees the cleanliness, the taste and yes the sweet curd. NOTHING CHANGED: He flips the bada high up adds dahi and again tosses it adds the masala and hurls it up another time ". Not a single ingredient falls off. Its the magic of Om's palm; a continuity of his loyalty to the dahi bada. charvi.ahuja@altius.ac.in saloni.nidane@altius.ac.in

LEADERSHIP WISDOM FROM THE MONK WHO SOLD HIS FERRARI

I have found a really good book Leadership Wisdom from the monk who sold his Ferrari by Robin Sharma which answer all my questions on how to become a successful leader. This book contains 8 rituals of Visionary Leaders and leadership wisdom which is focused on leadership qualities. Let me tell you these secretes. FIRST RITUAL is The Ritual of Compelling Future Focus. This shed light on that every leader should have rich imagine vision of their organizations future. The primary task of the leader is to get his employees to be active for doing their jobs by motivating them. SECOND RITUAL is The Ritual of Human Relation. Manage by mind, lead by heart. This clears up that a leader needs to take step to develop deep connection with those under their leadership. When you enrich the relationship, you enhance the leadership. THIRD RITUAL is The Reward Routinely, Recognize Relentlessly. It clarify that a leader should recognize and reward his employees regularly. He should give genuine appreciation. FOURTH RITUALS is The Ritual of Adaptability and Change Management. It describes that if a leader wants to change the results he is getting every day, he should need to change the things he is doing. He must transform the way he is leading. FIFTH RITUAL is The Ritual of Personal Effectiveness. It illustrates that if a person tries to do everything achieves nothing. So the real secret to getting things done knows what things need to remain undone. SIXTH RITUAL is The Ritual of self leadership. It simplify that a leader must not just lead his followers but should lead himself as well. There is nothing noble in being superior to others. True nobility lies in being superior to your former self. SEVENTH RITUAL is The Ritual of Creativity and Innovation. Its like finding the smarter way of doing what you do. EIGHT RITUALS is The Ritual of Contribution and Significance.
