Ethics Track hosted by NASW, Utah Chapter
SCREENING, BRIEF INTERVENTION, AND REFERRAL TO TREATMENT (SBIRT) is an evidence-
based practice model which has been proven successful in modifying the consumption / use patterns of at-risk
substance users, and in identifying individuals who need more extensive, specialized treatment. SBIRT is a
comprehensive, integrated, public health approach that provides opportunities for early intervention before
more severe consequences occur. It is a movement sweeping across the nation.
Generations 2012 will play host to one of the frst major trainings for professionals in the west. In addition to
the specifc tools, the SBIRT Training on March 30th from 8:00 to 4:00 at the Hilton Salt Lake City Center will
help individuals and organizations design methods for implementation. This program will be conducted for
invited guests and interested individuals from the conference. Continuing ed will be offered, however, space
will be limited. This program will be sponsored by the Utah Division of Substance Abuse & Mental Health in
partnership with the Utah Addiction Center - making it free for attendees. To register for this training, contact
Becky King at the State Division - rbarnett@utah.gov or 801-538-4278.
