Record 1 of 4 - Cab Abstracts TI: Heterosis studies in okra [Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench]. AU: Sunil-Chauhan; Yudhvir-Singh AD: Department of Vegetable Science & Floriculture, HPKV, Palampur - 176 062, India. SO: Vegetable-Science. 2002; 29(2): 116-118 PY: 2002 AB: A line x tester analysis using twenty lines and four testers was carried out to study the extent of heterosis for yield and yield-contributing characters in okra. The study revealed that heterosis over the better parent (BP), standard check 1 (Parbhani Kranti), and standard check 2 (Pusa Sawani) was observed for all the traits studied. DC-97 x P-7 cross combination showed the highest magnitude of heterosis for yield over better parent, standard checks. Among other cross combinations, Arka Anamika x Arka Abhey, Shagun x Varsha Uphar, EMS-8 x P-7, DC-97 x Varsha Uphar, PSB-1 x Varsha Uphar, K-21 x P-7 and Pb. Padmini x Varsha Uphar exhibited higher heterosis over the better parent and standard check 1, while Arka Anamika x Arka Abhey also exhibited heterosis over standard check 2, showing the importance of non-additive genes. Thus, these can be considered as promising cross combinations for yield and can be further tested. Record 2 of 4 - Cab Abstracts TI: A note on the occurrence of yellow vein mosaic in intervarietal crosses of okra (Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench). AU: Chaudhary,-D-R; Vidyasagar-; Jagmohan-Kumar AD: Dept. of Vegetable Science & Floriculture, HPKV, Palampur, India. SO: Himachal-Journal-of-Agricultural-Research. 1995; 21(1/2): 90-92 PY: 1995 AB: The incidence of yellow vein mosaic virus [bhendi yellow vein mosaic bigeminivirus] on okra is described. Disease incidence ranged from 19.26 to 69.13% on the hybrids tested. On parent plants disease incidence ranged from 19.95 to 51.16%. Record 3 of 4 - CAB Abstracts TI: Heterobeltiosis studies in okra [Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench]. AU: Vermani,-A; Vidya-Sagar; Gautam,-G AD: Department of Vegetable Science and Floriculture, CSK Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, Palampur - 176 062 (H. P.), India. SO: Crop-Research-Hisar. 2006; 31(3): 412-414 PY: 2006 AB: A line x tester analysis involving 14 lines and two testers was carried out during summer-rainy 2002 at two locations viz., Palampur and Akrot to study the nature and magnitude of heterobeltiosis for fruit yield per plant and 10 component traits. The pooled analysis revealed that no single cross-combination could express significant desirable heterobeltiosis for all the characters simultaneously. Pusa Makhmalil x P-8 revealed desirable heterobeltiosis to the maximum extent for fruit yield per plant (27.11%), nodes per plant (19.30%) and plant height (26.32%). The

cross-combination Dhira x Arka Anamika revealed significant heterosis over better parent for inter-nodal length (-22.78%), fruits per plant (20.96%) and fruit length (39.29%). The other promising hybrids were Pusa Makhmali x Arka Anamika and Varsha Uphar x P-8. Thus, these cross combinations can be utilized in further breeding programmes.. Record 4 of 4 - CAB Abstracts TI: Heterosis and combining ability studies for shoot and fruit borer infestation (Earias spp.) in okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L. Moench). AU: Sanjeev-Kumar; Thania,-N-K AD: Department of Vegetable Science & Floriculture, CSK HPKV, Palampur (H.P.), India. SO: Asian-Journal-of-Horticulture. 2007; 2(1): 126-130 PY: 2007 AB: A total of 30 hybrids and 13 parents were used for screening and gene action studies in Himachal Pradesh, India. EC-329424 x Varsha Uphar, EC-329424 x P-8, EC-329424 x Arka Abhay, EC-169513 x P-8, EC-169513 x Varsha Uphar and EC169513 x Arka Abhay showed high resistance to shoot and fruit borer (Earias spp.) infestation. The lines EC-329424, EC-169513, EC-7194 and IC-128061 and the tester Varsha Uphar were good general combiners for pest resistance. No crosscombination showed significant specific combining ability effects for this trait. Thus, parents with good gca effects may be involved in multiple crosses to obtain desirable segregants. The gca variances as well as s2A were higher than sca variances and s2D indicating the preponderance of additive gene action. Hence, selection could be exploited for the improvement of this trait.
