Sharks are epic and our show is epic is the running theme for the radio show put on by Bond Burley (14) and Larissa Board (14). The pair decided to start a show together because of their similar taste in music and their wanting to share it with other people. The most serious decision the two have made as a duo was coming up with their name, Shark Base. Burley loves sharks and the pair plays a lot of music with

strong bass, so the name came together naturally. Its really fun to play songs with deep [bass] because the speakers can handle it, Burley said. Board and Burley are a very laidback team and this comes through in the nonchalant way they play hip hop, dubstep and house music for their hour-long set. Over the course of the week, they think about what they want to play. I usually find songs I havent listened to in a long time, Burley

said. For Board and Burley, their radio show is a time to relax and chill after a week of school. They like to let loose to beats pumping through the speakers. Their favorite moment with the show so far with their show was when Board freestyle rapped about Burley anfd how many ladies hes had. She goes crazy, rocking her face off, Burley said. Shark Base airs every Friday from 4 to 5 p.m.

In celebration of yet another fantastic Gender Studies Symposium, this weeks Shit Postmodernism Says features gender theorist and all-around badass Judith Butler. The advocate and intellectual has been one of the leading voices of the feminist movement since the 1980s. She grew up in Cleveland, Ohio to Jewish parents and is well known for her strong, informed critiques of the state of Israel. She is responsible for one of the most revolutionary ideas in gender studies; that our genders are constructed through discourse. Butler is also considered a staple of postmodern thought due to her critique of Freudian psychoanalysis as a grand narrative that is meant to categorize woman as a unit. She continues to teach at the European Graduate School in Switzerland and UC Berkeley. Notable books include Bodies That Matter: On the Discursive Limits of Sex (1993), Gender Trouble: Feminism and the Subversion of Feminism (1990), and Undoing Gender (2004). And unlike all the old dead white dudes you read day in and day out, she is young enough to be your mom! I decided to go with Judy for this weeks column after visiting the symposiums inspiring art show. Congratulations to best-inshow winner Claire Tsuji (13).

My understanding of queer is a term that desires that you dont have to present an identity card before entering a meeting. Heterosexuals can join the queer movement. Bisexuals can join the queer movement. Queer is not being lesbian. Queer is not being gay. It is an argument against lesbian specificity: that if I am a lesbian I have to desire in a certain way. Or if I am a gay I have to desire in a certain way. Queer is an argument against certain normativity, what a proper lesbian or gay identity is.
