School Environment Analysis Essay Diane Jenkins Grand Canyon University: EDA 575

THEORIES School Environment Analysis No school is perfect because daily problems and challenges occur that leaders have to face. Multiple correlates and determinants the school environment, behavior within the home, community contribution and the atmosphere students live in. Students are faced with broken homes, poverty, and sometimes not the proper care a child should

receive. Takes a collaborative effort to bring about change, and sometimes challenges can not be changed. There are many issues the leader has to deal with at Martin Elementary. There is an enrollment of 750 students at the school, and the school is located in the high rate of poverty. School has issues with little to no parent involvement, poverty and a lack of technology for this to be the 20th century. This current year the administrator team consists of four persons with three being new. These factors combined with new team members have various supervisors at the school to help the administrator team to try keep the school environment positive. This essay will explain the environmental and contextual factors and describe some potential solutions to address these factors. One environmental factor is the extent of parental involvement. Currently the school is dealing with young parents, which did not finish school themselves. The lack of concern is a major problem. The parents fall to realize being unconcern is hurting their child. At the school the administrator has hired a parent involvement person to keep parents up to date about the school. If the teacher has an issue with a student the parent involvement person will contact the parent. Also, to help get parents involved, ACE program allow parents to come and join, but attendance has been very low. There is no excuse on the parent part to participate in school activities. Administrators make a point that weekly notes are sent home to provide information about upcoming activities in the

THEORIES classroom, school, district, and community. The hope is to bring in more parents and have them aware of school events and activities. In the process, there can be more support for the students and their success in the school. (Learoyd-Smith, 2010). A major environmental factor in the school is poverty in the surrounding area of the school. There are many times students that come to school with the same clothes for days and not have the proper materials for school. Especially in elementary school, teachers send home folders so that parents can be aware of student behavior. Folders are not coming back and or homework. Students are unprepared for school with proper materials. Where is the school system going? Education is not been a priority for many students, again falls back on the parents. Daily it has been shown that parents give so many excuses of why the student might not be prepared for school. School supplies should not be an issue because the teachers give each student what is needed. Problem is the students are not returning back to school with the supplies needed for the classroom. Environment of the school is 95% are on free or reduce lunch. Watching students it is obvious which ones are not eating at home and the school is the main source supply of food for many students. The contextual factor that effects the school is the fighting among the students. Students atmosphere bring about the issues. Students living in low income ho
