1. SCOPE

This protocol is intended for use as a test method for vending machine manufacturers to provide a consistent approach to the measurement of energy consumption. The test results may be used to compare the energy consumption of similar machines and to answer queries on this issue from (potential) customers. Tools and methods used are as simple as possible, in order to allow non-manufacturers to perform the tests on their own premises. The protocol covers (but is not limited to) the following: CATEGORY 1 2 3 4 5 6 MACHINE TYPE Can & bottle machines Refrigerated confectionery & snack machines Refrigerated food machines Ice cream & frozen food machines Non Refrigerated machines Hot/Cold drink machines

The specific tests to be conducted are split into two sections, one covering categories 1 - 5 above and the other for category 6. This protocol does not cover battery-powered machines. Chapter 6 is specific for categories 1-4, which are all mentioned in the pre-study of the EuP Directive, Lot 12.

2.

DEFINITIONS

ENERGY MEASUREMENT DEVICE is a device that measures the machines energy consumption; this can either be in series with the electrical power cord or be placed around it measuring the electromagnetic field generated. ENERGY SAVING FEATURE is a feature that some vending machines have that reduces the energy consumption of the machine when enabled. FACTORY SETTINGS are the settings that are made in the factory before the machine is sent to the customer, this includes but is not limited to thermostats, defrost cycles and the like. MANUFACTURERS INSTRUCTIONS are the instructions that accompany the machine to advise how to install the machine at the final operating location. PULL DOWN is the reduction of temperature inside the machines product storage area from ambient to the machines set temperature. WATT HOURS is the unit measure of energy. This is the preferred measurement unit compared to the measurement joule preferred by operators. WATT HOURS/HOUR is defined by dividing the total energy consumption measured (Watt hours) by the total time of the test in hours. E.g. a test that takes 150 minutes and consumes 600 watt hours of energy is expressed as 600/2.5 = 240 Watt hours/hour. NON-REFRIGERATED MACHINES are machines with no refrigeration system fitted that dispense a variety of products including but not limited to newspapers, non-perishable snacks and toys. Heat Up Phase is the phase that the water stored in a heater tank or boiler, heats up from ambient temperature to its regulating temperature. Idle State is the phase that the machine is ready for use but no products are taken. 4

Version 2.0
Vending Phase is the phase when drinks are taken as per a specified pattern. Energy Saving Mode refers to the situation that the machine is disabled for use and the stored water cools down to a pre-fixed temperature, usually at night or during weekends Heat Up from Energy Saving Mode measurement takes place when the water heats up from its temperature at the end of the Energy Saving Mode Period to its regulating temperature in Idle Mode. Re-loading and Pull Down measurement takes place when the machine is reloaded with product which must be done within a specified time period

ENERGY MEASUREMENTS FOR MACHINE CATEGORY 1 TO 5

There are three test phases, which are as follows: 4.1 - Machine idle phase; 4.2 - Machine vending phase; 4.3 - Machine re-loading & pull down phase. These phases are to reproduce the machines normal operation. At various stages throughout this test protocol you are asked to record measurements, these measurements are for entering where specified on the appropriate test report form. 4.1 4.1.1 IDLE STATE MEASUREMENT Once the machine has been installed fill to maximum capacity using the intended product to be vended form the machine. Category 1, 2 and 5 products being loaded into the machine shall be at the same ambient temperature as the machine. This temperature is dependent upon location classification (see section 3.1). Category 3 and 4 products shall be at the temperature at which they need to be maintained. For further information please refer to the EVA-TMP Protocol. Switch on and allow machine to reach a stabilised internal temperature. For category 5 machines, the test can start 30 minutes after installation. Ensure that the energy measurement device has been reset to zero. Once the temperature has stabilised start the energy measurement for the duration of 24 hours. At the end of this duration record the energy measurement in (IM) on the test report expressing the measurement in Watt hours/hour. VENDING STATE MEASUREMENT Having completed tests from the idle state, the machine is ready for the sales state measurement. Ensure the energy measurement device has been reset to zero. The measurement for this test shall start once the first vend has been taken. Start vending from the machine in a sequential manner. NOTE: For example, on a can machine selection 1 to 10 and for a numerical keypad style of selection, use the sequence A1, B1 C1 etc. Vend from the machine until the capacity is reduced by 50% and record the time to do this. The frequency of vending is to be 2 products every minute. Once a 50% capacity reduction is reached, record the energy measurement in (VM) on the test report expressing the measurement in Watt hours. RE-LOADING AND PULL DOWN MEASUREMENT (CATEGORY 1 TO 4 ONLY) Having completed the vending measurement phase, the machine is to be re-loaded with product which must be done within a specified time period. Ensure that the energy measurement device has been reset to zero before commencing re-loading. The measurement for this test shall start once the door has been opened.

ENERGY MEASUREMENT FOR MACHINE CATEGORY 6

This test protocol has been written for Hot-Only machines and combined Hot/Cold machines that are provided with a water cooling device. There are seven test phases, which are as follows: 5.1 - Machine Heat Up phase. 5.2 - Machine Idle phase. 5.3 - Machine Vending phase. 5.4 Energy Saving Mode phase 5.5 Heat Up phase from Energy Saving Mode to Idle 5.6 Machine Idle phase Cold drinks only (if applicable) 5.7 Machine Vending phase Cold drinks only (if applicable) These seven phases are to reproduce the machines normal operation. Important notes Tests 5.1, 5.2 and 5.3 are to be conducted for the hot drinks section of the machine, during which the eventually fitted water cooling device must be switched off. These tests are designed to run sequentially, the machine is not to be switched off at any time until tests 5.1, 5.2 and 5.3 are complete. Tests 5.4. and 5.5 are to be conducted when the machine is provided with an Energy Saving feature, which is an optional feature and therefore not supported by every machine. These tests are designed to run sequentially directly after tests 5.1, 5.2 and 5.3. The machine is not to be switched off at any time until tests 5.1 up to 5.5 inclusive are complete. Tests 5.6 and 5.7 are to be conducted if the machine has a provision for cold drinks and therefore provided with a water cooling device or carbonating device. During these additional tests the water heating device and other energy consuming parts (e.g. lighting) must be switched off. These tests are designed to run sequentially, the machine is not to be switched off at any time until tests 5.6 and 5.7 are complete. Only a cup or vessel made of plastic shall be used for receiving the product. At various stages throughout this test protocol you are asked to record measurements, these measurements are for entering where specified on the appropriate test report form.

Version 2.0
5.1 5.1.1 5.1.2 5.1.3 5.1.4 HEAT UP PHASE MEASUREMENT (HU) Ensure the energy measurement device is set to zero. This test is to measure the energy consumption to bring the stored water supply to its regulating temperature. Once the machine has been installed and set up for normal operation, switch on the energy metre and the machine under test. Switch off any present water chiller unit or carbonator unit for cold beverages. The test is complete when the machine thermostat switches off the heating device, at this point record the measured energy consumption in (HU) on the test report and express this in Watt hours. After the measurement has been taken the machine is to be left switched on for 24 hours before commencing the next test (Idle Phase). IDLE STATE MEASUREMENT (IM) Switch off all features like automatic self sanitizing feature, energy saving feature and other features that may have an effect on this measurement. Once the 24 hours has elapsed (see 5.1.4) ensure the energy measurement device (EMD) has been reset to zero. The machine is now left for 24 hours measuring the energy consumption in Idle State After the 24 hours is complete, record the energy measurement divided by 24 in (IM) on the test report and express this in Watt hours/hour. VENDING PHASE MEASUREMENT (VM) This test is to define the energy per litre for preparing and delivering a drink. Ensure that the temperature of the incoming water is maintained at 25 +/- 2C. Ensure the energy measurement device (EMD) is reset to zero. The energy measurement is to start from selecting the first drink. Thirty (30) drinks are to be taken at a rate of one drink every two minutes and the volume of each drink (L) taken. Add the drink volume of each drink and record the TOTAL drink volume (of the 30 drinks) in litres on the test report in (DV). Only coffee vends are to be taken and if the machine has more than one boiler then the one with the highest temperature is to be used. After the last drink record the TOTAL energy consumed in (VM) on the test report. Within 5 minutes of completing the above take five consecutive drinks at the same vend rate and measure the temperature of each within 5 seconds of the drink being delivered. Calculate the average temperature and record in drink temperature (DT) on the test report. Calculate the energy consumption per litre by dividing the total energy (VM) by the total volume from drink volume (DV) and record in energy consumption per litre (ECPL) on the test report. ENERGY SAVING MODE MEASUREMENT (ESM) Ensure that the machine switch from Idle State (IS) to energy saving mode (ESM) for at least one night to make sure that the water heater regulates on its factory set point in this mode. Ensure the energy measurement device is reset to zero. The machine is now left for exactly 6 hours measuring the energy consumption in energy saving mode (ESM). After the 6 hours is complete record the energy measurement in energy saving mode (ESM) divided by 6 on the test report and express this in Watt hours/hour. If the machine does not have such function, please leave energy saving mode (ESM) blank and insert N/A (not applicable).

Ensure the energy measurement device is reset to zero. This test is complete when the machine thermostat switches off the heating device, at this point record the measured energy consumption in heat-up phase in energy saving mode (HU-ESM) on the test report. If the machine does not have such function, please leave energy saving mode (ESM) blank and insert N/A (not applicable). Beverage machines that are provided with a chiller unit or carbonator unit for the supply of cold water, should undergo the following extra measurements: IDLE PHASE MEASUREMENT COLD SECTION ONLY Disconnect the hot water heating device and other possible energy consuming parts (e.g. lighting) and switch on the Cooling device. Leave the machine for 24 hours to ensure that the cooling device has reached its nominal temperature. Ensure the energy measurement device is reset to zero. The machine is now left for 24 hours measuring the energy consumption whilst the machine is in Idle State (IS). After the 24 hours is complete, record the energy measurement divided by 24 in (IMC) on the test report and express this in Watt hours/hour. VENDING PHASE MEASUREMENT COLD SECTION ONLY This test is to define the energy per litre for preparing and delivering cold drinks. Ensure that the temperature of the incoming water is maintained at 25 +/- 2C Ensure the energy measurement device is reset to zero. The energy measurement is to start from selecting the first drink. Thirty (30) drinks are to be taken at a rate of one drink every two minutes and the volume of each drink (L) taken. Add the drink volume of each drink and record the TOTAL drink volume (of the 30 drinks) in litres on the test report in (DV-C). Only cold water vends are to be taken (still water, no syrup drinks). After the last drink wait until the cooling device has reached its nominal temperature and record the TOTAL energy in vending machine (VM-C) on the test report. Within 5 minutes of completing the above take five consecutive drinks at the same vend rate and measure the temperature of each within 5 seconds of the drink being delivered. Calculate the average temperature and record in drink temperature (DT-C) on the test report. Calculate the energy consumption per litre by dividing the total energy (VM-C) by the total volume from drink volume (DV-C) and record in energy consumption per litre (ECPL-C) on the test report.

6. ENERGY CONSUMPTION SCALE

The European Union adopted a Directive on establishing a framework for setting Eco-design requirements (energy efficiency) on all energy using products (EuP). Vending is currently included in the framework under the LOT 12: Commercial Refrigerators and Freezers. The relevant categories are from 1 to 4. This part of the protocol has been written with a view for the Vending Industry to have a proactive approach to energy-consumption improvement as well as to inform vending machine buyers of such consumption. The Energy Consumption Scale has been developed on the basis of the EVA-EMP Idle State consumption. The facsimile of the form is visible in ANNEX C, while the self-compiling Excel file named Vending_Energy_Classes_V1.xls will be distributed separately (vending@vending-europe.eu). The file is protected so that only allowed data can be modified and variable fields are in green colour. The procedure is developed in the following steps: 6.1 6.1.1 Definition of the climatic class The climatic classes have been created with the Directive 94/2/CE (white goods). This figure is not related to point 3.1 (test conditions), but to the building specification of the machine. Definition of volumes and temperatures Dimensions of the single areas should be input in the table: the Excel sheet will automatically calculate the totals. The volumes to be considered are the boxes were the products lie. Delivery areas and similar are therefore excluded. APPENDIX D shows some examples. Volume ranges: Non perishable foods: snack; drinks. All products not related to the Directive 852/2004. Perishable Foods: All products related to the Directive 852/2004. Other : area in which a peculiar temperature can be specified . Pre-cooling: area not directly linked to the product sale, normally a storehouse inside the machine in which to store some goods in advance (not perishable). Temperature ranges: Non perishable foods : declare +9C. Perishable foods : declare +3C. Other : declare average temperature. Pre-cooling : declare average temperature. In order to obtain comparable results, as far as possible temperatures must be declared compliant with the above mentioned list; Please note that given the fact that machines in the market are sometimes very different, some data may have to be adjusted. Addition of the EVA-EMP Idle mode EVA-EMP Idle Mode Consumption (IM value in APPENDIX A) must add to the Step 3 of the form. The programme automatically generates the following figures: Energy Coefficient Ec=( (Volume*((25-Ttemperature)/20))*Climatic class. Yearly base consumption Ybc = (Idle State*24*365/1000). Energy efficiency Index I=(Yearly Idle State/Energy coefficient). Sorting in the different classes The Excel sheet will automatically use the corresponding Energy efficiency Index. The step between each class is the same of the White Goods, using the D class as a basis. The threshold of class D has been calculated in order to obtain the following result: Internal volume around 500 dm3 with non perishable foods. Idle state between 329 WH/H and 365 WH/H which corresponds to a daily consumption of 7,89 KW and 8,77 kW (very similar to the 8.66 KW foreseen in the 10
