Dr. Farida Dias enlightened us on a various issues. To begin with she gave us a gist of her life and how she changed for the betterment of others. Before this the Farida that most of us never knew was in Quwait, a regular working lady trying to make enough money to sustain her and her family. However at nearing the end of her career she thought there should be more to just making money and that is when she realised she should give something back to the society. Thus, Farida came to Goa where she and some of her friends decided to do social entrepreneurchip and this after pursuing her MBA at the age of 50. Some of her work involved going to remote villages and assessing their difficulties and then addressing these difficulties to the government and raising funds to uplift from the state of neglect. She and fellow volunteers also helped these villagers to manage their resources by allotting people ( more educated ones) among them to take responsibility of managing their affairs. Simultaneously she also founded the Goa YMCA Toastmasters Club: What is YMCA Toastmasters Club? Since 1924, more than 4 million people around the world have benefited from membership in toastmasters. Through member clubs, people can improve their communication and leadership skills, and find the courage to change. Today Toastmasters is a world leader and now has more than 260,000 members around the globe. The mission of a Toastmasters club is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every individual member has the opportunity to develop oral communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self-confidence and personal growth.

Learnings: After interacting with her and watching her present I was touched by her decision to do something for the society. She says that in life we only think of making money, even she thought the same way until one day she thought of giving back to the world because when you do that you have an inner satisfaction that is above all happiness. She said she was late to realise this and hopes that at least one from all of us in class should take back something useful and do something for the society that has done so much for us. You could start with something as small as helping an old lady walk across a busy road and without even knowing how time has passed you could be the next big social entrepreneur, all that is needed is the drive and the rest just follows along.
