Argumentative Writing: The Worlds food supply is/is not in trouble. How? Why?

Discuss by arguing for or against this proposition. The contemporary world is undergoing drastic changes and is on the verge of a major crisis: A food crisis. The global shortages of food and the rising of prices have been a common issue during the past decade. The Food and Agricultural Organization has implemented urgent steps to hold down costs and boost agricultural production as a solution to the sky rocketing food prices. Although such steps have been taken to minimize the consequences or forestall the crisis, the food supply of the world will soon undergo trouble because Natural disasters, spiraling fuel prices, and increasing population all impact the worlds food supply. Unpredicted natural disasters have struck most of the worlds biggest rice producers in frequently in recent years. Floods, Hurricanes and earthquakes have repeatedly destroyed the crops as well as the fertile land. Countries like Japan have most of their irrigation lands close to the coastal areas which are more prone to disasters like flood. Tsunamis in the recent past in those areas have brought a great blow upon the food supply. One third of the irrigation land in the world has become salty and thus highly unproductive. Although countries have been able to afford recoveries it is taking more time than anticipated to turn those unfertile lands ready for cultivation.Due to these reasons food prices have gone high, even in the domestic supplies. It is clear that the natural disasters are increasing and all most all parts of the world are being affected intermttently. If this goes on the world food supply will be in even graver danger. The world population is ever expanding and is now growing at an alarming rate of 210,000 per day. There is shortage of food and massive population increase. Humanity needs food and just because the countrys economy is down it doesnt mean that the people have the ability to starve to death, the people need food whatsoever. The U.N estimates that 44million people have been forced below the poverty line since June 2007. Mrs. Clinton is reported to have said, Although the situation is not yet dire as it was four years ago; the consequences of inaction would be grave. Of course these statistics will lead to desperate shortages and public unrest. With more and more population the food supply grows to be inadequate.

Meanwhile, certain people could argue that if the export bans were banished and further surplus food was produced, then this crisis would cease down. We must act now, effectively and cooperatively, to blunt the negative impacts of rising food prices and protect people and communities, Mrs. Clinton told and anxious crowd. Will that really happen? Not at all, because the world today efficiently produces food enough to feed twelve billion people; the problem lies within price, supply, and distribution. India already introduced scientific methods farming and new irrigation systems. These genetically engineered crops have multiplied the volume of products while halving the cost. All these are consequences of man-made situations and definitely have solutions. Yet woefully, it lies in the hands of politicians who are practically turning into predators. If there is so much surplus food then why are the people starving to death? It lies right in front of us and if this organizational culture is followed on, definitely the worlds food supply will go down. -----A Research By Mr.Smaartass
