"Rockconcertpianist"ScottD.Daviswouldbegtodiffer.Asapianistandaloverof heavymetalmusic,hechoseanindividualpathfromthebeginning.PerhapsNewAge Reporterbestdescribedhimbysaying"hisexuberanceandoriginalityareinvigorating andhisupbeatattitudecontagious." Interestingly enough, if you ask Scott about his musical background he might surprise you. He comes not from a background of polished piano music, but instead his piano playingdevelopedundertheinfluenceofprogressivemetalartistssuchasQueensrche, Metallica, and Dream Theater. He then pursued rock music as a career throughout his collegeyears,playingkeyboardsforanumberoflocalprogressivemetalbands. Itwasn'tuntilhisband'sleadguitaristintroducedhimtothepianomusicofDavidLanzthathebegantoconsider acareerasasolopianist."PriortohearingLanz,myideaof'solopiano'wentnofurtherthanclassicalmusic,a form of music I always admired, appreciated, even studied, but never felt much connection with. Lanz's impressionistic style was at that time unlike any music I had ever heard. Our guitarist brought me a copy of 'SkylineFiredance',andthemusicgrabbedmerightaway.Ifoundmyselfplayingaroundwithafewmelodiesat thepianoandIjustneverstopped." WhileScottlovedplayinginmetalbands,therewasonelittleproblem;thebandskeptbreakingup!Frustrated bythis,hefinallydecidedtogothesolopianoroute.Inlate2003hereleasedTahoma,hisfirstfulllengthsolo pianoCD.Notwillingtositaroundandwaittobediscovered,tookhismusicdirectlytothepeoplebyplayingand sellinghisCDsinshoppingmalls."Atfirstitwasjustawaytotestandseeifanyonebutmewouldactuallythink mymusicisOK."Buthewasunpreparedforjusthowsuccessfulitwouldbe,sellingonaverage100200CDseach day."Itjustsortofturnedintoafouryear,coasttocoastpromotionaltour.BeforeIknewit,Ihadfouralbums done,ahugemailinglist,andover40,000unitssold." Scott released his Christmas CD Winter Journey in 2004, and the solo piano rock tribute Rockfluence in 2005. Thenin2007,heunleashedthemetalheadpartofhispersonalityontothepiano,inallitsfury,whenherecorded Pianotarium:PianoTributetoMetallica.Thepianoisaverypowerfulinstrument.Unamplified,it'soneofthe mostpowerfulinstrumentsthereis!Ithasmorebassthanabass,andisactuallyloudenoughtocausehearing losswithnoamplificationwhatsoever!"AsfarasIknow,it'stheonlyacousticinstrumentthatcantrulysound 'metal'."Sobringonyourenergycrisisandrollingblackouts,youcantstopmefromrockin'hard!"Finally,the "metalheadturnedpianist"hadfoundhiscalling. InMarchof2006,ScottrealizedalonghelddreamofmeetingandperformingonstagewithGrammynominee andplatinumsellingpianistDavidLanz,themanwhosemusicfirstinfluencedScotttopursueacareerasapianist. "Itwasliterallyadreamcometrue,andnowwe'replanningevenmoreshow'stogether!It'sveryexciting."They havesincesharedthesamestagefourmoretimes,andmanymoreshowsareplanned.
